[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1645341] Re: Wacom serial: Screen rotation triggers pen/eraser rotation but not for finger touch
After some digging in the upstream kernel, I found this commit: - e0361b70175f0cd6199dd9ed6679632de73973d4 Input: wacom_w8001 - split the touch and pen devices into two devices These devices have a pen device and a touch device through the same serial protocol, split it up into two separate devices like we do for USB Wacom tablets too. Userspace already matches on the device name so we can't drop it completely. Compose the same basename based on capabilities and append the tool type, leading to a name like "Wacom Serial Penabled 2FG Touchscreen Pen". Note that this drops BTN_TOOL_FINGER, it is not needed once the tools are split out (and a touch device with BTN_TOOL_FINGER is interpreted as touchpad by most of userspace). - It is the last recent of 5 commits which introduce changes to the W8001 serial driver. It's just a guess - may be, the new device isn't considered for screen rotation? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xf86-input-wacom in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1645341 Title: Wacom serial: Screen rotation triggers pen/eraser rotation but not for finger touch To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input-wacom/+bug/1645341/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

@Onno: no, #4 is a different bug, it's already fixed in kernel 4.7 - see here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1613134 but it may be related somehow, because it depends on the kernel version if it works or not. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1645341] [NEW] Wacom serial: Screen rotation triggers pen/eraser rotation but not for finger touch
Public bug reported: After updating to xenial the finger touch was broken. With an update to yakkety the finger touch device came back, but it doesn't rotate with the screen, how it used to in former releases. Pen and eraser are rotated as expected. I discovered, that the bug occurs only with linux kernels after 4.4, so it depends on recent changes in the kernel. The 'xsetwacom list devices' command generates the output: Wacom Serial Penabled 2FG Touchscreen Pen stylusid: 15 type: STYLUS Wacom Serial Penabled 2FG Touchscreen Finger touch id: 16 type: TOUCH Wacom Serial Penabled 2FG Touchscreen Pen eraserid: 18 type: ERASER ... but with the old linux kernel from utopic (4.2.0) the ids are different: 15 for the stylus (unchanged), 17 for the eraser, 18 for finger touch This bug affects: * an updated system how described above * a fresh installation of yakkety (used to file this bug) * the zesty daily build ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.10 Package: xserver-xorg-input-wacom 1:0.33.0-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.8.0-22.24-generic 4.8.0 Uname: Linux 4.8.0-22-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.3-0ubuntu8 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Mon Nov 28 15:10:21 2016 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: yakkety DistroVariant: ubuntu InstallationDate: Installed on 2016-11-28 (0 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.10 "Yakkety Yak" - Release amd64 (20161012.2) MachineType: Hewlett-Packard HP EliteBook 2760p ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.8.0-22-generic root=UUID=71701156-1f2c-4138-a7eb-0c16ea6b53d3 ro quiet splash SourcePackage: xf86-input-wacom UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 05/27/2016 dmi.bios.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.bios.version: 68SOU Ver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1392887] Re: serial wacom devices gone after upgrade to utopic/14.10
Hi, I've just played around with the last update from the proposial repo. Seems to work fluently. Most important things first: If You did a workaround, then remove the handmade file first. It may interfer with the installation (e.g. if You used the workaround from comment #2). This doesn't apply to the method suggested in comment #8, because the /lib/udev/rules.d/69-wacom.rules file will be overwritten by the new one from the package. OK. What tested?: - removed the workaround, uninstalled 'xserver-xorg-input-wacom' and installed old version (0.25.0-0ubuntu1) from utopic repo. -- touch is gone after restart (how expected) - updated to version 0.25.0-0ubuntu1.0.1 from utopic-proposed repo. -- touch works again (restart needed) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xf86-input-wacom in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1392887 Title: serial wacom devices gone after upgrade to utopic/14.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input-wacom/+bug/1392887/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

@Jon-Paul Walker: Questions about how to fix something should be asked in the forum, not in the bug report. But anyway, you should do the steps listed in comment #8 as superuser - so the commands will look like $ sudo mv ... or do it in a root console (prompts a # symbol) - but it is disabled by default with good reasons. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xf86-input-wacom in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1392887 Title: serial wacom devices gone after upgrade to utopic/14.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input-wacom/+bug/1392887/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1392887] Re: serial wacom devices gone after upgrade to utopic/14.10
To make clear the term 'put to sleep' - is it the suspend mode (available by default) or the hibernate mode which made the problems? I just checked the suspend mode with both workarounds, but I couldn't find any issue with the wacom driver, after waking up the notebook. Hibernate mode crashes my machine, so I wasn't able to check that - but this is another story.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1392887] [NEW] serial wacom devices gone after upgrade to utopic/14.10
Public bug reported: Recently I upgraded ubuntu from 14.04 to 14.10 on my HP EliteBook 2760p. After that, all serial wacom devices (for the touchscreen) are gone: serial wacom stylus serial wacom eraser serial wacom touch xinput -list and xsetwacom --list don't show these devices and the Wacom Tablet section of the system setings reports 'no tablet detected' rather than showing the usual settings. Booting with the old linux 3.13 kernel makes no difference to the new version 3.16. To find out what happened I played around on a spare partition with the following results: 1) fresh installation of 14.10 - result is the same like reported above: no touch devices 2) fresh installation of 14.04 - touch works out of the box 3) upgraded the fresh installation of trusty to utopic: touch devices gone again 4) manually changed repos to utopic after fresh installation of 14.04 and updated ONLY the xserver-xorg-input-wacom package: apt pulled some dependencies and installed without errors, touch devices gone (so it reproduces the error exactly as the full upgrade) I haven't found a workaround, so far, but on my recherche I found a similar problem with some lenovo notebooks which have built in also the serial wacom devices. See http://askubuntu.com/questions/541505/thinkpad-x41-tablet-wacom-stylus-stopped-working-on-lubuntu-14-10 So it may not only affect the HP EliteBook. Please, can somebody confirm that?
