[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1222853] [NEW] [sandybridge-m-gt2] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x0b160001 IPEHR: 0x0b140001

2013-09-09 Thread manfreed
Public bug reported:

I'm not sure if this is a duplicate of any other bugs with similar name,
so just in case this is a separate report.

For the past few days I experience frequent lockups.
Usually theese are 5-10 sec long, and only visual, for example music playback
continues. However there were a few cases when i had to restart my computer.

They happen almost randomly, but I noticed that in some cases they are more
frequent, for example using virtualbox (win7 machine, 3d acceleration
enabled), and video playback in flash - youtube).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1201403] Re: Unity performance issue on intel gpu

2013-08-15 Thread manfreed
Hi!

Thanks for your answer. I'm not familiar with perf, could you give me a
few pointers how and when to use it?

I'been monitoring the cpu usage of the compiz and x processes during the
day (my coputer was running for days now). Compiz used 8-10%, X used
usually around 40, but sometimes it went up to 80%.

I killed the compiz process (it restarted), after that compiz and x
processes are hardly using any cpu.

here is i915_gem_objects before the compiz-killing:

3614 objects, 1480253440 bytes
2154 [226] objects, 854626304 [132976640] bytes in gtt

  2138 [224] inactive objects, 737198080 [116260864] bytes
185 unbound objects, 114356224 bytes

45 purgeable objects, 9420800 bytes
30 pinned mappable objects, 42258432 bytes
27 fault mappable objects, 1089536 bytes

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1201403] [NEW] Unity performance issue on intel gpu

2013-07-15 Thread manfreed
Public bug reported:

The overall performance of my notebook feels worse when I Use unity.
After starting my computer everything seems to be fast, however in a
short time (in 1 hour, or less based on usage) things became slow, and
sometimes sluggish. A reboot seems to solve this. Suspend/resume seems
to make things slower a bit

For comparison I tried using XFCE for a while (compositing disabled).
The overall performance felt better. Webpages tend to scroll smoother,
intellij IDEA used to slow down (noticable lag when typing), I didn't
notice this behaviour while I used xfce, even when the IDE did some cpu
intensive like rebuilding indexes.

When I use Unity the cpu usage of compiz grows over time even if nothing
happens on the screen, and I close every application.

Also my battery seems to drain faster
