[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1883334] [NEW] Xorg freezes after Lock (win+L or via Menu>Lock)
Public bug reported: This started to happen after installing the last update last week. If I lock the screen (using either Win+L or opening the menu and clicking Lock) the screen turns to black and it doesn't come back anymore. I know the system is still operational since the NumLock button still responds (turns on and off If I press it) and the HotSpot still works on my phone, but the screen just doesn't come back from black. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1880293] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: When I click the button "Show Applications" then I click on a icon and drag over another icon, then a group is created. If I open a group then I click on the pen button to edit the group name, the title becomes editable, then If I delete all the letters then click out of the group window to save the changes the UI freezes and there's nothing I can do to unfreeze it. The system is still responsible since the mouse cursor moves (but clicks don't have any effect) and the NUMLOCK indicator is also responsive on the keyboard. I then panic and press a wild combination of CTRL+ALT+Windows button+Esc+Q+F1+F2 untill the terminal appears asking for login and password, but the UI disappears, then I can only reboot from there. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577871] Re: GRAFIC HARDWARE NO SUPPORT UBUNTU BUG RESOLUTIONN
I have a SiS 761GX board and the symptom is the same. Ubuntu uses by default an odd resolution to my CRT monitor, 960x600, and 1024x768 isn't available (despite being supported). The main problem should be the DDC support broken of sis driver. I found this old Debian bug, probably related: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=473134 My Xorg log has these lines: (II) SIS(0): VESA VBE DDC read failed ... (II) SIS(0): Replaced entire mode list with built-in modes Using another machine, with an i945G chip, plugged in the same monitor, all works ok. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 291294] Re: after upgrade to 8.10 (new x.org) SiS driver is not working well (issue with color depth?)
I can confirm the bug is still present in karmic. My friend's old laptop screen looks like the one attached in #25 I made it work for a while starting X in vesa driver, then in sis driver with Options vesa True. I am going to try to install the .deb attached or reapply the patch and recompile (it will remind me of the times recompiling the kernel to make the sound card work :-) -- after upgrade to 8.10 (new x.org) SiS driver is not working well (issue with color depth?) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/291294 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-sis in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 309434] Re: Caps Lock stops being a Control key with an external keyboard
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 289781 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289781 I also think the duplicate status *may* be wrong. Whereas #289781 describes a solution of running setxkbmap after resume, this wouldn't work to fix this bug. In this case, the keyboard mappings are lost every time the external keyboard is unplugged, so running it after resume won't guarantee proper functioning of the keyboard throughout the execution of the application, since a future disconnect of the external keyboard will bring the issue back. This ticket (309434) is the only one that clearly describes what the issue really is. BTW, I'm using a wireless keyboard, which means that every time that my keyboard loses connection even for a split second with its base, it resets my keyboardmap, making this the most annoying ubuntu bug I've come across, and a very important bug one to be fixed for any users of wireless keyboards with custom mappings. Thanks for your time, Marcos -- Caps Lock stops being a Control key with an external keyboard https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/309434 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in ubuntu (via bug 289781). ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
