[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 905686] Re: nautilus assert failure: nautilus: ../../src/xcb_io.c:528: _XAllocID: Assertion `ret != inval_id' failed.

2012-09-24 Thread marmuta
Apparently bug #1055698 can reproduce _XAllocID asserts reliably.
Onboard in unity-greeter is not exactly a minimal test case, but perhaps
this is still of some help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 837456] Re: [Oneiric] XTestFakeKeyEvent changes keyboard mapping to 'us'

2011-11-09 Thread marmuta
Confirming too. I've tested my freshly updated Oneiric installs and the layout
switches are still occurring for Onboard and kvkbd.
Other distributions appear to be affected too, I've seen this happening with
Onboard on Mandriva 2011 (under KDE) recently.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 837456] [NEW] [Oneiric] XTestFakeKeyEvent changes kayboard mapping to 'us'

2011-08-30 Thread marmuta
Public bug reported:

Typing with the onscreen keyboard Onboard on a system with German
default layout immediately switches the keyboard layout to 'English
(US)'. Touching any key on a physical keyboard switches back to the
German default. This can be repeated indefinitely.

Onboard uses XTestFakeKeyEvent to send key events. When switching from a
physical keyboard to Onboard, the first call to this function leads to
an unwanted MappingNotify event and the keyboard map changes from
'pc+de+inet(evdev)', 'German' to 'pc+us+inet(evdev)', 'English (US)'.
Pressing any key on an attached USB keyboard switches back to
'pc+de+inet(evdev)', 'German'.

Running any of the following temporarily fixes the problem for the current
session:
$ setxkbmap de
$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

Restarting X brings back the unwanted layout switches.

FWIW, here is a gdb backtrace with a break point set on

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 425334] Re: [RV730] xorg-edgers: Desaturated windows turn into solid colored rectangles

2009-10-10 Thread marmuta
Sorry for the delay, it took a me a while to get this working. So I
downgraded everything but drm-modules-source from xorg-edgers to mesa
7.6.0-1ubuntu2 and then recompiled libgl1-mesa-dri with some troubles to
enable r600 support. In the end it turned out well and the fix does seem
to be included, desaturated windows work fine.

Except for bug 425303 I didn't find anything else wrong with 7.6.
Not-a-benchmark shows 8000 frames/5s, /usr/lib/xscreensaver/gl* all
work, wine games work, only blender was easy to crash

drmRadeonCmdBuffer: -22. Kernel failed to parse or rejected command stream.
[ 2975.471078] [drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR* cs-dwords too big: 16437

but this looks more like a result of the version mismatch between
karmic's libdrm and drm-modules-source from xorg-edgers.

2009-09-30 Thread marmuta
 I know the old Jaunty udev rules would add dri/ explicitly.

 This is something that has changed in the main kernel (and in the udev
 rules) but not yet in the drm-modules-source.
That explains it, thanks Tormod.
I've dug up the Jaunty udev rule. It works better than my hack, with only the
device being created at the right location.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 425303] Re: [RV730] xorg-edgers: Mist of artifacts in highlight color over menus and buttons

2009-09-29 Thread marmuta
This is odd, grep dri/ /var/log lists nothing because the device is
created as /dev/card0 instead of /dev/dri/card0

I'll attach the output of
sudo udevadm test /class/drm/card0

Is udev supposed to add /dri to the path or should DEVNAME below be dri/card0?
cat /sys/class/drm/card0/uevent
MAJOR=226
MINOR=0
DEVNAME=card0

Anyway, I've added
SUBSYSTEM==drm, SYMLINK{unique}+=dri/$kernel to some rules file
and now I have the device /dev/card0 and a symlink to /dev/dri/card0 and dri
works well. Really well actually, except for this little bug.

This bug seems fixed with fresh git master drm/mesa/glx and drm-next
kernel. but only with KMS/DRI2 enabled. The corruption is still there
without mode setting.

Also, xorg-edgers/radeon doesn't work for for me anymore. Everything GL
froze in drmCommandWrite() since a few day ago. Perhaps an outdated drm-
modules-source 2.4.3+git20090831+r6xx-r7xx-3d.8e297c0a-0ubuntu0tormod4?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 419126] Re: [ATI R6xx and above] X fails to start up after mesa+git update - gdm loops after logging in

2009-09-17 Thread marmuta
Why disable r600 dri when there is already a capable driver in the xorg-
edgers PPAs? To add a datapoint (HD4670), I've been using them for the
last 10 days with great success. Compiz works well and is smooth, XVideo
is there with the usual 16 textured video adapters, and even some dated
3d games I tried are surprisingly playable (Supertuxcart, wine+Age of
Mythology). All without a single freeze or X crash yet.

Of the glitches I described in #109 there is only bug #425303 left, The
busy window bug #425334 has been fixed already. I think it would be
really sad to have r600 dri disabled at this point. Are there any
blockers holding up the transition from xorg-edgers to the repos?

Works for me after some iterations. I needed
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/radeon
sudo apt-get install drm-modules-source
sudo module-assistant -t auto-install drm-modules
sudo update-initramfs -u

Glxgears and compiz work, but there are some graphical glitches with
menus, buttons and typing text. Also busy windows become solid grey
boxes. I'll see if I can catch all that in screen shots and file bugs
(radeon HD4670).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 425303] [NEW] [RV730] xorg-edgers: Mist of artifacts in highlight color over menus and buttons

2009-09-06 Thread marmuta
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgl1-mesa-dri

Moving the mouse over any pull down or context menu menu leaves a mist
of artifacts behind. The artifacts are 16 pixel wide horizontal lines in
the color the menu selection. Moving the mouse over them clears them or
creates new ones of varying density. This only happens with compiz, not
without compositing.

Hovering over certain buttons, selecting text or drawing a rectangular
selection in nautilus leave similar patterns of 16px wide lines behind.

Steps to reproduce:
a) menus (screenshot 1)
- open Ubuntu Application menu
- run the mouse over some items without clicking

b) buttons (screenshot 2)
- run gnome-calculator
- hover the mouse over some buttons without clicking

c) nautilus selection (screenshot 3)
- switch file browser to icon view
- drag to start rectangular selection
- move erratically with left button pressed

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 425334] [NEW] [RV730] xorg-edgers: Desaturated windows turn into solid colored rectangles

2009-09-06 Thread marmuta
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgl1-mesa-dri

Setting the saturation for a composited window to less than 100%
abruptly turns it into a solid white/grey rectangle. Its content stays
invisible until the saturation is returned to 100%. This happens in
compiz with unresponsive windows via the Fading Windows plug-in as
well as when manually setting saturation with the Opacity Brightness
Saturation plug-in. Opacity and brightness are unaffected and work as
expected.

Steps to reproduce:
$ gnome-calculator
$ killall -s STOP gnome-calculator
- wait and watch gnome-calculator become solid grey (see screen shot)

or:
$ gnome-calculator
$ ccsm
Accessibility-Opacity Brightness Saturation-Saturation
press new , Windows: class=Gnome-calculator, Window values: 99
- gnome-calculator turns solid white

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 373669] Re: [RV620 HD 3400] No power management with ati driver

2009-08-29 Thread marmuta
Testing HD4670/RV730XT on current Karmic with xserver-xorg-video-radeon
1:6.12.99+git20090629.f39cafc5-0ubuntu6).
I had a hard time starting X, probably because of Bug #419126. It would freeze
until I created an xorg.conf with Option DRI 0 and bypassed gdm with startx.

This what I found with an external power meter for the idle system:
93W with empty device section in xorg.conf, 750/873
86W with manually added ClockGating and ForceLowPowerMode, 375/435

and for comparison:
74W with Jaunty fglrx, 165/250 (engine/memory [MHz])
65W without the card, running with intel onboard graphics

Can't say anything about fan speed as this is a passively cooled card.

Seems the first round of improvements has arrived and once manually enabled
they do have an effect.
Unfortunately the best I could do without touching source was 12W more than
with fglrx on Jaunty.
ForceLowPowerMode still only halfes both engine and mem clock.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 373669] Re: [RV620 HD 3400] No power management with ati driver

2009-08-19 Thread marmuta
António, for measuring power draw on a notebook try 'powertop' or right click
the power icon in the notification area for 'Power History'. 'cat
/proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state' could work too, but the path might have changed
since I last used it (can't test).
Desktops usually require an external meter to measure the power draw.

I would do some testing too but I'm on dial-up currently. Will do it
next week when I'm back to fast internet access.
