Fixed my computer: I ran: sudo dpkg-reconfigure libpam-runtime and reset all the settings to default. When I lock the screen, I am unable to unlock it again. The wallpaper appears for a second when I move the mouse, but disappears again. The video below illustrates the problem - I started the video from bootup to show that it happens every time. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 949380] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: To reproduce this bug, I lock the screen. When I try to unlock the screen, the screen flashes up with the wallpaper - then back to black again. To workaround the problem, I have disabled the screen lock. To get my computer back today, I will kill the X process - or restart lightdm. standard - black screen - screensaver on ubuntu. I created this bug-report using ssh from another computer This is probably the same bug as 943836. I'm going to have a play with gdb if I can work out how. Public bug reported: To reproduce this bug, I lock the screen. When I try to unlock the screen, the screen flashes up with the wallpaper - then back to black again. To workaround the problem, I have disabled the screen lock. To get my computer back today, I will kill the X process - or restart lightdm. standard - black screen - screensaver on ubuntu. I created this bug-report using ssh from another computer This is probably the same bug as 943836. I'm going to have a play with gdb if I can work out how. Randomly describes this bug perfectly. The laptop can work for hours without an issue, or it can crash after only 2 minutes of usage. Computer does not have a chance to write anything to disk - so it seems impossible to determine the circumstances leading up to the crash.
