[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 405533] Re: HAL Fails: (EE) config/hal: couldn't initialise context: (null) ((null))
error: dbus_bus_get: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.FileNotFound: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory OK, but this is expected, I believe, because I am running in Drop to root shell with networking right now. When I try to start normally, I can't interact with the system via Keyboard, Mouse or Network, so there would be no way, that i know of, for me to run lshal. Can youthink of any other way for me to get the requisite information? -- HAL Fails: (EE) config/hal: couldn't initialise context: (null) ((null)) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/405533 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 405533] Re: HAL Fails: (EE) config/hal: couldn't initialise context: (null) ((null))
Yeah, that'show I logged in when I got this error from a root shell with networking. But when I boot normally, there is no network, so SSH doesn't work. I can't even ping the machine. The desktop appears normally, but with the Failed to load HAL (I think, not sure of the phrasing) error message. Is there anything in any log file that could help? -- HAL Fails: (EE) config/hal: couldn't initialise context: (null) ((null)) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/405533 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 405533] [NEW] HAL Fails: (EE) config/hal: couldn't initialise context: (null) ((null))
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I ran a set of updates a few weeks ago that caused my (remote) ubuntu Jaunty system to not boot up. It was installed off of the alternate CD, with md (RAID) devices enabled. I have had a number of problems with it, getting it oing, initially, and then with HAL failing because it couldn't assemble the RAID devices. More information on that issue can be found in the bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/361689. Well, Now I am getting a HAL failure message on the GUI once Ubuntu boots, but there is no Keyboard/Mouse/Network, so there is no way for me to interact with the system. The only thing I can do is drop to a root shell w/networking at boot. To further complicate the diagnosis, I only have remote access to this machine, so my ability to reboot it is limited to when I can have someone do it for me, drop to a root shell, and then start SSHd. The error in the Xorg log says: (EE) config/hal: couldn't initialise context: (null) ((null)) P.S. I also have a warning in Xorg that says: (WW) The directory /usr/share/fonts/X11/cyrillic does not exist. Please let me know if I can provide any more information to help diagnose this bug. Thanks!
