Let us recap. I update to the Vivid enablement stack and get the error in comment 34. The next day, during a system update, I get the same error (comment 43). These errors are new to this install of 14.04. The update process pushes not 1 but 2 Linux kernels (comment 43). Each has substantial info (many dozens of MB). These are not the hallmarks of a stable OS. What part of the above do you not take seriously? Actually, 14.04 has been unstable for months. I keep getting system program errors as in comment 32. I tested with the 64 bit liveDVD 15.10 Wily Werewolf test version of 24-sep-2015. I observed the following: - white (or grey) text at top of screen during boot (Linux message) was maybe larger than usual - the Ubuntu splash screen with 5 red dots was visible (at last!) - the cursor is not sluggish like 14.04 32 bit with nVidia card - the cursor is very fast and responsive just like the test machine without nVidia card using 14.04 or 15.04 32 bit - dragging windows around the desktop very rapidly on the nVidia machine behaves just like the test machine without nVidia In summary, the 64 bit liveDVD on the nVidia machine behaves just like the 32 bit 14.04 and 15.04 on the test machine without nVidia. I applied the suggested update to the Vivid enablement stack as outlined in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack The resulting video behaviour is not 100% but very much better. I got some errors during the update process and captured them as best I could via the attached 3 screenshots. At boot, you do not see the Ubuntu splash screen with the red dots. At shutdown, you do not see the command line messages. I have just made an embarrassing discovery. I replaced the mouse and solved the problem. Sure wish I had thought of that earlier, it would have saved a lot of trouble. On the nVidia machine, Ubuntu 13.10 beta 14-may-2013 liveDVD has the same problem. In gmail with chromium browser, I am not getting proper mouse response. For example, yellow starring an email required several clicks before taking effect. This is reproducible. Could you please change the importance to sky high.
