In the meanwhile I've changed my laptop so I'm afraid I won't be of much help on this. I imagine this kind of bugs are pretty complex to spot but unfortunately push people moving to different OS's, at least for laptops (I've moved to OS X myself, even if I'm still fully-Ubuntu on the desktop).
