[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1873403] Re: [nvidia] Screen turns off when trying to set some fractional scaling values

2020-07-23 Thread Stuart Still
I've tried this from pop!_os 20.04, nVidia 2060 super GTX, 4k monitor.

Starting off in 100% scaling, I select 125% scaling. Before enabling
proposed, this resulted in the screen switching off.

Since enabling proposed and installing the updated packages, this now
doesn't switch the screen off, but the behaviour is still not correct. I
believe I'm now experiencing
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1875285 and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1825593 (the
latter of which is marked as fixed).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1816269] [NEW] No image on KVM switch

2019-02-16 Thread Stuart
Public bug reported:

Hi all,

I have a NUC7i7BNH with the latest BIOS (0062) running Ubuntu 18.04
(uname -r = 4.18.0-15-generic). I have the NUC connected via USB-C to a
dual DisplayPort adapter, to an Avocent SV340D KVM.

If I have the KVM on the switch for the NUC, everything works great. If
I switch the KVM to another channel, and then switch back to the NUC, I
only get black screens. The only solution is to hard reboot the NUC.

Any help would be appreciated.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1259005] [NEW] Swiping over SEARCH header in top left of phone Dash does not show search

2013-12-08 Thread Stuart Langridge
Public bug reported:

On the Ubuntu phone I always try and summon the Search by swiping down
over the word SEARCH in the top left of the Dash. This doesn't work; you
have to tap SEARCH, not swipe over it. The swipe gesture isn't being
used for anything else; perhaps swiping over SEARCH ought to summon the
Search dialog as well as tapping SEARCH?

See screenshots of gEdit. It's fine when only 1 tab is open, if I open
another tab the background goes black. If I close all tabs it stays

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 997075] Re: XOrg uses 100% CPU after upgrade to 12.04 and freezes computer

2012-07-20 Thread Stuart Bleeden
I have the same issue. I think it has to do with the Nvidia 8 series, because I
have a Nvidia 8800 GTX.
I tried the proprietary driver packages, didnt help. I then tried to manually
install the latest driver via Nvidia's website. Again, didnt help.
I have only tested it using XFCE, but I suspect the same under Unity. I really
am only affected when doing anything requiring any special effects such as
from Cairo-dock and switching workspaces. I also have compositioning enabled
to allow a proper transparency on my conky.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1003333] [NEW] Ubuntu snowcrashes frequently but with no obvious cause

2012-05-23 Thread Stuart Langridge
Public bug reported:

For the last two days (since Monday 21st May 2012) my machine (a Lenovo
U300s) has been snowcrashing six or seven times a day. By this I mean
that the screen (or screens) are filled with coloured moving static.
When the machine is snowcrashed, it does not respond to ssh, and sounds
that were playing are stopped; as far as I can tell, the machine is
genuinely crashed and *not* still working but with broken video.

Recovering from the snowcrash requires powercycling the machine.

I am running a custom kernel provided by cking to fix a suspend issue,
but the issue also happens under the regular Ubuntu kernel.

I have seen this crash happen after hours of usage, or within minutes of
logging on. I have also seen it happen at the lightdm login screen
before I am even logged on. It happens both when the laptop is using
solely its own screen and also when the laptop is plugged into a monitor
via HDMI.

kern.log shows nothing of interest. At RAOF's suggestion I tried echo
0xe/sys/module/drm/parameters/debug but there was still no interesting
information in kern.log after a crash and powercycle. Xorg.0.log.old
also contains nothing relevant.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1003333] Re: Ubuntu snowcrashes frequently but with no obvious cause

2012-05-23 Thread Stuart Langridge
However, switching to using the vesa driver for Xorg *has* helped; so
far there have been no crashes.

I did this by blacklisting i915 and creating an xorg.conf, as so:

aquarius@faith:~$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-intel-sil.conf
/etc/X11/xorg.conf
blacklist i915

Section Device
Identifier Configured Video Device
Driver vesa
EndSection

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 889212] Re: LibreOffice window resize corruption

2012-03-13 Thread Stuart Brown
I am running Cataylst drivers on ATI hardware and see the same behavior.
This needs to be moved to a more general topic than nvidia driver bug.

Also, it may be related, but often times the window will open with the
title bar and menus offscreen top left. Have to use the keyboard to move
it back.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 933356] [NEW] clickpad PPA not working, sometimes

2012-02-16 Thread Stuart Langridge
Public bug reported:

The clickpad PPA work to allow click-and-drag to drag/select-text works
when X is started, but then at some point later stops working.

This *may* be being caused by doing a double-tap-and-hold style drag;
doing one of those seems to stop click-drag from working from then on.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 884191] [NEW] Disable touchpad while typing doesn't disable Synaptics touchpad on Lenovo ThinkPad T410i on Ubunutu 11.x

2011-10-31 Thread Stuart Shelton
Public bug reported:

In the Mouse and Touchpad application, Disable touchpad while typing
is ticked - however, this seems to have no effect. Catching the
trackpad whilst typing sends the cursor ricocheting across the screen.

Expected behaviour:
Disable touchpad while typing does indeed disable the touchpad within {x}
seconds of a key-press occurring - or, if this functionality isn't available
with this hardware, the option should be greyed-out/disabled.

Actual behaviour:
The Disable touchpad while typing check-box seems to have no effect on the
system - there is no noticeable change of behaviour no matter what the state of
the control.

duplicate of Bug #774113 because this issue is with an Elantech touchpad

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 788659] [NEW] X crashes, taking me back to gdm

2011-05-26 Thread Stuart Langridge

situation.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 776668] [NEW] Xorg crash

2011-05-03 Thread Stuart Auchterlonie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Attempting to playback a recording in mythtv using a playback profile that uses
XvMC causes the X server to crash.
Disabling the use of XvMC in mythtv and the crash does not occur and playback
is successful.

The previous version of the XServer could run with XvMC without
crashing.

Let me know if you need any further tests done. Even old school gdb :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 768176] [NEW] GPU hang

2011-04-21 Thread Stuart Langridge
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

My screen went entirely black (both laptop screen and second monitor).
Switching to a VC did not show anything on screen. At first I could
still hear sounds from running applications, but eventually (after ~10
seconds) they stopped. I had to powercycle the machine to get control
back. The system problem detected apport dialog offered to let me file
a bug, but then I got another crash dialog saying apport-gpu-error-
intel.py closed unexpectedly. Attaching dmesg at bryceh suggestion:
/sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state is 0 bytes.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 758633] Re: Pointing devices disabled at start of session

2011-04-14 Thread Stuart Metcalfe
It happens every time I log in. The Pointing devices application
(gpointing-device-settings 1.5.1-4) is something I installed from the
software centre as it enables management of multiple devices - the
default 'Mouse' application only manages the default. This happens on
every log in, regardless of bluetooth status. When first connected, the
magic trackpad is also disabled until I do the same dance. The mouse
does work in the gdm log in screen but stops working when my desktop
session starts.

2011-04-14 Thread Stuart Metcalfe
Turns out that removing Pointing devices solved the problem and re-
installing it caused the problem again so re-assigning to gpointing-
device-settings

** Package changed: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) = gpointing-
device-settings (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: gpointing-device-settings (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 758633] [NEW] Pointing devices disabled at start of session

2011-04-12 Thread Stuart Metcalfe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

On first login, my pointing devices (laptop touchpad and apple magic pad
when I enable bluetooth) are disabled. I need to use the keyboard to
launch Pointing devices and then tab to the Disable touchpad option
- check and then uncheck it and my devices work again. Note, the
Disable touchpad checkbox is *not* checked when the devices are first
disabled.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 709664] [NEW] Using Bluetooth mouse causes display to unrecoverably die

2011-01-29 Thread Stuart Langridge
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

If I move my Bluetooth mouse, my laptop's screen and external screen
hang unrecoverably, since the latest Natty updates. (This worked
previously in natty.) The laptop trackpad works fine, and there is no
problem; as soon as I move my Bluetooth mouse, the laptop screen and
external monitor go black. The monitor's power button flashes, which
normally means that it's receiving no input at all (rather than
receiving the input of a black screen); ctrl-alt-F1 does not (visibly)
switch to a VC. This happens every time, repeatably.

(I don't know if this is actually an X bug, or a kernel bug, or what;
please reassign if inappropriate.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 695783] [NEW] nividia and kernel update trashes system, video and sound

2010-12-30 Thread stuart e anderson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I am running Ubuntu 10.10, I recently installed some system upgrades, including
a kernel upgrade and an nvidia driver update.
A reboot was required, after reboot I could not boot up, all I got was a black
screen.
Using the Ubuntu 10.10 live install CD I was able to get a basic system
running. I have had to reinstall 10.10, now my Samsumg SynMaster 2243BW 22inch

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 595555] Re: screensaver can't be interrupted once fade begins

2010-12-15 Thread Stuart Broadway
In case anyone is still looking for an answer, I've found a solution:
Since the screensaver is now handled by gnome, I checked the Configuration
Editor. You'll find the screensaver settings in there under apps -
gnome-screensaver. I noticed that the idle-delay key was NOT set to the
value I put in the gui settings (System-Preferences-Screensaver) which was 1
minute. It had 10 instead. Once I set it to 1 minute the screensaver actually
started at 1 minute instead of just fading and coming back to the desktop.
Hope this helps.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes

2010-09-22 Thread Stuart
I have been running both Ubuntu 9.10 and 10.04 using mainline kernel
2.6.34 since June without a single freeze, on different hardware
affected by the freeze. I have tested each newly released Ubuntu kernel
and every one so far results in a hard freeze (with fsck of disk
remounted readonly message on subsequent boot).

Incidentally, a default install of Fedora 13 runs solidly on the same
affected systems.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 599149] Re: [945GM] Xorg freeze

2010-07-01 Thread Stuart Read
Hi, I installed the xorg-edgers ppa and the 2.6.35-rc3 kernel from the
link you provided. Unfortunately, I can't troubleshoot the initial bug
as now the screen just flashes a square white/grey box (looks like 4:3
on my 16:10 monitor). Switching to vt1 gives a black screen. I can still
log in via ssh, so not all is lost. Should I submit a new bug for this
behaviour?

month ago, so could be due to a 10.04 update. Note that computer is
still functional from ssh, but keyboard/mouse/display are all not.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 589520] Re: Haven't been able to execute normal gnome login since 10.04 installation; screen blanks then returns to login screen

2010-06-26 Thread Stuart Hall

Hi,

There was no existing xorg.conf file in /etc/X11, so I
created one with the following content;

Section
ServerFlags
    Option AIGLX
off
EndSection

After rebooting, I was
successfully automatically logged in (which was the option I chose in my
third attempt to install).  The last bit of the syslog after the
reboot is now

Jun 26 16:09:51 saltcreek kernel: [

Since the problem occurred after 5th last line
and before the firmware load, I'd say this is a successful workaround.

Thank you.

Cheers,

Stuart Hall

Try to disable AIGLX by adding option to /etc/X11/xorg.conf
file.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes

2010-06-17 Thread Stuart
Igor Wojnicki wrote Take a lookat StuartN's post:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9468596postcount=487
This might be a hint what causes the freezes.

Switching the root filesystem to writeback mode (instead of the default
ordered mode) will work with EXT3 or EXT4. It is not a solution, but it
is possibly a method of gathering further data. In my case, I have a
system that is functioning (almost) perfectly with kernel 2.6.34 and
freezing with kernel 2.6.32-22. The freeze now affects a single process,
all the inodes attached to that process and subsequently all processes
depending on those inodes - yes, the system does fully freeze after some
time, but I have no difficulty accessing logs after recognizing that a
process has frozen. (See
http://www.iol.ie/~stuartneilson/Bootup_fsck.html)

Following the first message, EXT4-fs warning (device sda4): dx_probe:
dx entry: limit != root limit (which would equally apply to EXT3-fs),
leads to a commit 3d82abae9523c33d4a16fdfdfd2bdde316d7b56a with the
title dir_index: error out instead of BUG on corrupt dx dirs -
http://mirror.celinuxforum.org/gitstat//commit-
detail.php?commit=3d82abae9523c33d4a16fdfdfd2bdde316d7b56a -
http://lkml.indiana.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0709.3/0208.html

I have not located the version where this is merged into the Ubuntu
kernel, or indeed if it is directly relevant. I am going to test
Paul.Drover's suggested test for affected systems from
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9471373postcount=496

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 574152] Re: 64bit Ubuntu 10.04 Stops Responding

Should this (and https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/579115) be marked as
duplicates of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/585765 ?

And is xorg really the right package, or a just a side effect? The
filesystem bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/515937 seemed a
good explanation to me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 549318] [NEW] Xorg crashes when I switch to console

2010-03-26 Thread Lachlan Stuart
Public bug reported:

When I switch to console back to X using Ctrl+Alt+F1/Ctrl+Alt+F7, X
crashes and returns me to the login screen.

I believe this has something to do with TwinView, as this wasn't
happening before when I was using Xinerama on the same drivers.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 beta 1 with the latest updates, and the 195.36.15
NVIDIA drivers.

I am currently using 2 GPUs and 3 displays: Two monitors using TwinView
on GPU0, and one monitor using a separate X screen on GPU1.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 481349] Re: [i915g] Karmic: intel i915 crash (locked up - had to power off)

2010-03-02 Thread Stuart Overton
A workaround that works for me is to do a SysReq R,E
That takes me to the console, a couple of Alt-right keypresses will get me to a
console login.
I then log in and run sudo service gdm start. Once I'm logged back into my
desktop, I can run sudo NetworkManager.
This at least removes the need for a full reboot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 146298] Re: [i965] intel gm965 compiz dual head issues

2009-09-09 Thread Stuart Colville
I've tried Cavedon's PPA a couple of times but it always produced
tearing even after reboot - so I downgraded back the packages that were
replaced.

However just to be sure I'm not getting something wrong - could someone
provide details of steps to install the patched version of mesa?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 351763] Re: [RS482] Kubuntu: Display flickers after suspend-to-ram

2009-09-08 Thread Stuart Rossiter
Looks like not just Kubuntu. Have identical problem on standard Gnome
Ubuntu, same model (Acer Aspire 5100 with Radeon Xpress 200M). Occurred
immediately following Intrepid upgrade.

Sorry, late tonight :-( By Intrepid upgrade I, of course, mean upgrade
*from* Intrepid (to Jaunty).

(sigh)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 351763] Re: [RS482] Kubuntu: Display flickers after suspend-to-ram

2009-09-08 Thread Stuart Rossiter
Just to be clear: for me, it's not just a flicker but flickering with
ghosted images of bits of desktop. Makes Ubuntu totally unusable. Still
occurs if log off and back on with a safe terminal.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 398292] Re: constant kernel message: [drm:drm_wait_vblank] *ERROR* failed to acquire vblank counter, -22

2009-07-29 Thread Stuart Read
Based on the Fedora comments, this sounds like a bug specific to the DRM
used in the intel graphics driver.

** Also affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New
