[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 303697] Re: [fglrx] vsync issues - screen tearing unrelated to compiz

2010-05-26 Thread unggnu
You are right that tearing appears even without Compiz but this could be
circumvented by using OpenGL video output and activating vsync for
everything in the AMD Controlcenter. This workaround doesn't work with
Compiz so the main problem is with Compiz.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 303697] Re: [fglrx] vsync issues - screen tearing unrelated to compiz

2010-05-26 Thread unggnu
Of course it is a driver issue. I just meant the to my knowledge not
circumventable issue appears in combination with Compiz.

Nevertheless I have given up hope that this bug will be fixed in the
near futures. This issue is known since several years and it seems that
some serious changes are needed for this to be fixed otherwise they
would have already done it.

The good thing is that except of a proper power management the free
driver has all the features for my card 4870 now. Maybe it renders 3D
not as fast as the fglrx but it just works and doesn't have all this
annoying bugs (which never seem to get fixed).

Shouldn't this bug report be closed? Tearing should be gone since Karmic
and also the performance is fine - at least for the possibilities of the
Intel gpus I think.

2010-03-23 Thread unggnu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

If I suspend (through lid close) and Compiz is activated I see the login
screen after resume. I get six files in /var/crash after this. This the
report of the first one.

If Compiz isn't activated I see a black screen but through changing to
console and back I am able to use X again.

This seems to be fixed with latest updates. Probably 2.6.31-14 or the
new radeon driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 441505] Re: Xorg continuously taking up 15% CPU, system slow, GUI windows take several seconds to draw

2009-10-06 Thread unggnu
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 430694 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/430694

This looks like a duplicate of Bug #430694. Try to change to console with alt +
f1, then stop your window manager through sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop.
Afterwards remove the module with sudo rmmod i915 and reload it with sudo
modprobe i915 modeset=1.
After a gdm restart with sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart everything should be
fast again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 435241] Re: Intel KMS ignores some monitor resolutions (SHP 31)

2009-10-03 Thread unggnu

In fact the issue in this bug is that the standard mode(1280x...@60hz) in EDID
is missing. And it should be fixed by the following commit:
commit 5c61259e6c7290082108e93815f7f72f27da14f4
Author: Zhao Yakui yakui.z...@intel.com
Date: Mon Jun 22 13:17:10 2009 +0800

drm/mode: get the modeline for standard timing in EDID by using CVT/GTF

I can confirm that the fix works. Could it make it into Karmic. It is also
integrated in 2.6.32-rc1.

http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/airlied/drm-2.6.git;a=commit;h=5c61259e6c7290082108e93815f7f72f27da14f4

2009-10-03 Thread unggnu
This might be connected to Bug #435241 .
You may try the according Kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32-rc1/ and check if the
problem is gone with it. If so please mention it in my report.
Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 435241] [NEW] Intel KMS ignores some monitor resolutions (SHP 31)

2009-09-23 Thread unggnu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

If I connect my Dell Inspiron 1525 to my TV SHARP LC-32GA5E it is recognized
correctly but the wrong resolutions are used/shown. Only the 4:3 resolutions
640,800 and 1024 are available. The TV is useable but the aspect ratio is wrong
of course since it is a 16:9 display.
If I boot Karmic without KMS I can use the correct resolution 1280x720. So I
guess it is a KMS issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 361587] Re: [RV350 9800] Suspend results often in screen corruption

2009-09-01 Thread unggnu
Ok, I was too fast. The problem is still there, it mostly happens after
a longer suspend, several minutes, that's why I thought it worked.

I have tested the agp modi 1,2 and 4 and it doesn't helped either.

One time the screen corruption even stay after a reboot. I had to power
down the system to get rid of it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 361587] Re: [RV350 9800] Suspend results often in screen corruption

2009-08-31 Thread unggnu
So I have rechecked the issue in current Karmic and it seems to be
fixed. There seems to be another problem with wrong colors in Firefox
but I guess this is something else.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 278318] Re: video tearing with textured video on intel card

2009-08-03 Thread unggnu
This is still an issue in Karmic. It is better than before but still makes
video watching impossible with my i915.
Since KMS it is not possible to activate Overlay output so I need to disable
this too.

This isn't fixed until kms is enabled. But since it is planned for
Karmic this could be still marked as fixed release.

It is only fixed if composite isn't enabled but according to the devs
this should be fixed soon.

Btw. there is already a ppa with stable upstream drivers
https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates/ .
