No, this was fixed in one of the later ATI drivers. You can close it.

This looks like the same bug as #873058, which is marked against fglrx
(not fglrx-installer).

No activity on this for a while, but I would like to mention that this
bug is still present in 11.10. Unity now works in dualhead. Both
monitors are at 1680x1050 btw.

This same problem indeed still occurs in natty. That unity doesn't work
is probably somehow related to this as well.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 614269] Re: x locks up after putting display to sleep and at random instances

2010-08-25 Thread wdesmet
I will do as soon as I reproduce it again. I haven't found a reliable
way to trigger it so this might take a while. It seems to me this is an
interaction with the DRM code, meaning the kernel locks up completely
and logging just stops, so it's possible nothing ever gets written to
the log file to give any indication to the problem. Which, I realise,
makes this a very hard problem to track down.

It does seem to happen more reliably when the machine is under load. I
don't really see it happening when I'm just letting my laptop run, but
when I have some remote session open, a few browser windows, my mail
etc, it seems to happen a lot more quickly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 614269] [NEW] x locks up after putting display to sleep and at random instances

2010-08-06 Thread wdesmet
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

On this laptop I have frequent issues with X hanging up. It hangs in two
(possibly not related) ways:
1) When in power management put display to sleep... is enabled, letting it go
to sleep will frequently make it lock up. Input will not bring the screen back
up and the machine no longer responds to pings etc. No particular output is
logged in syslog.
2) at seemingly random times the display will corrupt (showing a repeating
pattern, for example just a couple green/blue lines repeated over the length of
the screen) and the machine becomes unresponsive.

I've not been able to track down the source, though at this point I'm
pretty sure it's related to the drivers and not the hardware (have
replaced some of it). It happens pretty consistently, at least a couple
times a day when intensively using the machine, usually with several
apps such as eclipse and firefox open. It's been a problem since at
least the previous release.

This is an ati radeon xpress 1100 card in an acer 5102WLMi laptop
running on lucid with version 1:6.13.0-1ubuntu5 of the driver.

Oddly enough this also affects the propietary drivers. I wonder whether
there's a workaround, as I can't seem to find much other instances of

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 576288] [NEW] second screen in dualhead setup doesn't refresh properly until reconfigured

2010-05-06 Thread wdesmet
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

When logging in, each time the background on the right screen in my
dualhead setup doesn't seem to repaint properly. Whenever I drag a
window over it, it's showing trails of the window, indicating that the
background is broken. I can also not right click on the background to
get the nautilus menu (create Folder etc.). Going into preferences and
disabling, then re-enabling the right monitor fixes it, until the next
restart of X.

It seems very similar to bug #378482, reported against the intel video
drivers, but since fixed apparently.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 572310] [NEW] font rendering of shaded text unreadable

2010-04-30 Thread wdesmet
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

In ubuntu 10.04 and 9.10, when rendering text that has a background
shading, this shading shows up as a dark blocky background, making the
text unreadable. I will attach a screenshot with an example (one of
many) in firefox. It also shows up in other places throughout the OS,
such as when switching to a new song in banshee, on the fade in/fade out
effects.

I previously reported this against the wrong package and a worse
description as #502336.

I initially thought this was related to not using compiz, but I am using
compiz (desktop effects) and it is still rendering wrongly. My machines
happen to all be running (different) ati cards.
