[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1547043] Re: 4k Support not working

2016-02-22 Thread MIME
Christopher, thanks for the hint.

Dell ships a mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable (DP-mDP) with the display.
The mDP cable is connected to the X250 and the DP cable is connected to the
display.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1547043] Re: 4k Support not working

2016-02-22 Thread MIME
Hi Christopher,

I have checked this. But by now only with the 27" Dell. (The resolutions
are anyway the same.)

Ubuntu offers resolutions up to 3840 x 2160 px.

The largest working resolution is 1920 x 1200 px.
Both higher resolutions (3840 x 2160 px and 2560 x 1440 px) result in a black
external display.

As I am using a freshly installed live stick with Ubuntu 15.10 i don’t expect
any *.old log files to appear.
I have only attached the Xorg.0.log file after testing your scenario.

MIME, as a potential WORKAROUND, could you please test the latest
upstream intel driver via https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads and
advise to the results?

2016-02-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
MIME, to advise, if you are going to test live environments, please test
the latest one found at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .
This keeps the results as helpful as possible.

Despite this, to clarify, you are using a mini-DisplayPort cable plugged
into your laptop, and plugging it into the mini-DisplayPort port of the
P2415Q?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1547043] Re: 4k Support not working

2016-02-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

- 4k support of my Lenovo X250 with and without docking station does not work.
- Ubuntu offers 4k resolution but my display keeps black.
+ Attempting to use Lenovo X250's mini-DisplayPort, connected to Dell P2415Q's
DisplayPort with Dell provided mDP-2-DP cable on below resolutions results in a
black screen on the external monitor:
+ 3840 x 2160 px
+ 2560 x 1440 px

- I can reproduce this bug with Dell P2415Q and Dell P2715Q connected via Mini
DisplayPort and DisplayPort (Dock).
- The most recent 16.04 build fails the same way.
-
- Thanks!
+ The largest working resolution is 1920 x 1200 px.
