I came across an old PCI Banshee card. The freeze still occurs on Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala). I only tested OpenArena at 16BPP. X also seems to freeze if I switch to a VT with the game running full- screen. I can do a Ctrl-Alt-Del to reboot from the VT. I don't need the card.
