I have the same issue on my MSI Wind U100. I also can confirm what RatSon reported; after I pressed Fn-F6 a few times, the camera apparently was enabled (though Cheese and Skype still don't recognize it), but now USB hotplugging is broken. In the following attachment from dmesg, I first hit FnF6 a couple times, after which the camera apparently is enabled, then I unplugged my USB mouse (to test hotplugging) and tried plugging/unplugging it a few times. I then attempted to turn off the camera with Fn-F6; as you can see, all I got was the key not set message. The situation is pretty odd. It seems that the camera is a USB device and I think that the hotkey combination is actually being handled by the bios or acpi somehow. In a 9.04/9.10 system where the camera is already on the boot sequence is slightly different from one where the camera is initially off. Looking in the dmesg output I see the ON boot saying use poll mode and the OFF boot says events will be used, but what exactly is going on I don't know. After boot udevadm monitor shows Fn+F6 events for the ON boot, but is silent for the OFF case. I haven't tried this experiment with the same kernel in 8.10, but I suppose I could. All I do know (as I pointed out above) is that this is not a kernel bug as my 2.6.31-10 kernel works fine booting 8.10 in On/Off modes. I'm willing to carry out experiments etc etc, but I don't think anyone here actually cares. Looking at cyli's output seems to indicate that this might be a udev issue ie the usb is turning on and off, but udev isn't sending out the right events. Camera worked for me in 9.04, and is not recognised in 9.10 although lsusb lists it. Hi Adrian, This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux 276495 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag.
