2014-06-22 Thread Aaron Sosnick
This bug is still present with the latest Ubuntu 14.04. For me nomodeset
does not allow the screen to be set to its native resolution of
1280x800. Can we please reopen the bug?

To be clear I am confirming presence with Ubuntu 14.04 but I assume it's
an underlying problem and will be present in Kubuntu as well as every
other variation.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 351763] Re: [RS482] Kubuntu: Display flickers after suspend-to-ram

2014-01-07 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Thomas David, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

2011-08-29 Thread Marco_Case
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 318325 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/318325

For anyone interested, I have found a solution for my Acer Aspire 5100 in
UBUNTU 11.04 (64bit version)
The flashing screen is caused by the kernel modesetting feature (KMS) that
doesn't work good on the ATI radeon xpress 1100 graphic chip, so I disabled
this feature by editing the file /etc/default/grub and changing the line:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”quiet splash” to: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”quiet
splash nomodeset”. Then I ran: sudo update-grub. Don't know if this is working
for ubuntu versions below 11.04.

For the googlers around here's the sequence:

1) open the terminal and type: gksudo gedit/etc/default/grub
2) find a line that says: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”quiet splash”
3) modify that line this way: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”quiet splash
nomodeset”
4) save, go back to terminal and type: sudo update-grub
5) reboot your laptop, then try to suspend it and resume, it should work.

Hope this helps someone.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 351763] Re: [RS482] Kubuntu: Display flickers after suspend-to-ram

2009-10-04 Thread Piotr Krysik
It's not just Ubuntu 9.04 which has this bug. It's not only appears after
suspend to ram but also after suspend to disk. This problem is with us for very
long. I don't remember when it started, but it was probably in 7.04 or 7.10.
The same bug is in Ubuntu 9.10. I think this is high time to solve this problem
or push it to developers of the driver. I suppose that it will be hard to
reproduce this problem on other machines so I can assist in tests. I know
something about programming and debugging but I have zero knowledge about
graphic drivers. I can follow instructions from someone experienced.
This is how screen exactly looks after suspend:

Looks like not just Kubuntu. Have identical problem on standard Gnome
Ubuntu, same model (Acer Aspire 5100 with Radeon Xpress 200M). Occurred
immediately following Intrepid upgrade.

Just to be clear: for me, it's not just a flicker but flickering with
ghosted images of bits of desktop. Makes Ubuntu totally unusable. Still
occurs if log off and back on with a safe terminal.
