[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 387929] Re: no mobility powerset
This bug report was filed against an old version of Ubuntu. Can you confirm whether this is still an issue in natty? If you don't mind, it would be very helpful if you could update the bug report in launchpad to 'Fix Released' if it is no longer an issue for you, or if it is still occurring under natty, please tag the bug 'natty' so it's easier for us to track. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = New ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/387929 Title: no mobility powerset ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Stefano, you may be interested in http://www.botchco.com/agd5f/?p=45 and discussions on http://phoronix.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=43 As you can see from the blog, the power management is currently in the radeon driver. On the longer term, the power management will move to the kernel (under the drivers/gpu tree). -- no mobility powerset https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/387929 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 387929] Re: no mobility powerset
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd Hi I have this problem, I have an asus F3jp with Ati Radeon Mobility x1700. I install ubuntu 9.04, but I can't install catalyst 9.3 cause xorg1.6 work only with catalyst 9.4. Catalyst 9.4 is only for now HD video card and so don't support my video card. There isn't problem with GUI or Compiz, RadeonHD open drive don't have powerset! so my video card work full power always! This make my battery life short and make my laptop very noisy (cause full speed fan) and HOT!! VERY HOT!. Anybody know how set the power of my video card low? I don't need all video card power. For youtube and some film i think minimum power is enought! On ati driver was powerset... Hi sda1986, Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well. [This is an automated message. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 387929] Re: no mobility powerset
Both the -ati/-radeon driver (which is the default supported driver for your card in Ubuntu 9.04) and the -radeonhd driver have got power management support in their development versions. So this will be available in Ubuntu 9.10. For now, you can test out latest development versions from my PPA https://launchpad.net/~tormodvolden/+archive/ppa See the radeon and radeonhd man pages for which options to try out. Any particular reason you are using the -radeonhd driver? Please try the -ati driver to see if it is better.
