[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 426159] Re: Cannot log in via gdm
The logs show that Xorg dies whilst the session starts. Reassigning. ** Package changed: gnome-session (Ubuntu) = xorg-server (Ubuntu) -- Cannot log in via gdm https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/426159 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 426159] Re: Cannot log in via gdm
A gnome-session --debug log. I made this by this: - log in using the xterm session - this opened a single xterm window - gnome-session --debug 21 | tee gnome-session-debug.log - this killed X again ** Attachment added: gnome-session-debug.log http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31478340/gnome-session-debug.log -- Cannot log in via gdm https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/426159 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 426159] Re: Cannot log in via gdm
Suggested by seb128: Running compiz from the xterm instead of gnome- session-debug (right after logging in via the xterm session as tomjon) also kills X. This would confirm to me that it's an X bug. -- Cannot log in via gdm https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/426159 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Xorg.0.log, for your amusement. removing compiz did not make the problem go away. ** Attachment added: Xorg.0.log http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31478582/Xorg.0.log -- Cannot log in via gdm https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/426159 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 426159] Re: Cannot log in via gdm
sudo dpkg --remove compiz-core compiz-fusion-plugins-extra compiz- fusion-plugins-main compiz-gnome compiz-plugins compiz-wrapper compizconfig-backend-gconf libcompizconfig0 that made the problem go away. this is obviously not a fix, but it's a sufficient workaround for me, since I need this machine to actually work. (part of the work I need it for is karmic development, which is why I run karmic...) -- Cannot log in via gdm https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/426159 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
