[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 478493] Re: [M6-LY] radeon kms doesn't work - returns to login screen

2010-04-05 Thread a.tom
I did the upgrade, still without the above PPA.
Either the 2.6.32.18 kernel, or the 1.7.6 xorg fixed the issue, so I can log in
now without a xorg.conf now.
There are some lesser glitches though, suspend doesn't work, and the notify-osd
rendering is faulty when hovering over the mouse.

Hi!
About minor glitches: you could try to follow the oldies but goldies release
notes from the 9.10: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/910, at the
bottoom of the page, where they talk about X server. I've tried and it works.
Here below mine's: it's minimal but it does the job. ;)

Anyway, talking about small faults, I can see a thin white line on the
bottom of my monitor. Just a couple of pixels, but it does not happens

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 478493] Re: [M6-LY] radeon kms doesn't work - returns to login screen

2010-04-05 Thread a.tom
It's not the same issue like in the bug. As you can see in the attached
picture, it's completely readable, only there's a black frame around the
notification.
And IIRC when you set renderaccel off, the system gets significantly slower.
About suspending: does it work for you? For me the backlight stays on while in
suspended state, and what is worse, the system can't come back either, freezing
somewhere in the waking process.

2010-03-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
Actually I didn't notice you're not the original bug reporter Luca.
Especially since the issues you're currently seeing differ from the
original report, you should file a new bug, and do it by the command
`ubuntu-bug xorg` - DON'T post tarballs with files to bug reports, it
just makes it harder for us to view the files themselves.

Since there's not been a reply from a.tom since my request to re-test,
I'll close this bug report as expired.

XAA seems making no difference (actually it seems in the log that EXA is used
whether I set XAA or not)
  so here are the symptoms:

loading and splash seems fine, but upon the X session start (i use autoload)
i can only see the panel loaded, and after a few secs i'm dropped back to the
login screen. i can switch to VT. colours and size are normal both in login
screen and VT.

  e...@16 bits:
loading and splash seems fine, but on X session start, i can see my
background and the auto-starting apps 4 times tiled on the screen, and
everything is dimmed and greenish, except for the mouse pointer. after a few

dimmed green too. the vt's size is normal, but it's also green

2010-03-06 Thread Luca Aluffi
Ok. I've did what you told and used the DRM PPA. Here we go:
Boot went fine and I've seen splash too.

1) It got stuck just before the login screen with the message, printed on the
screen, [drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR* Failed to parse relocation !. I pressed
enter a few times and got the login panel;
2) Once on the desktop I've tried to launch some application but none of them
had border or top bar. They all started located at the top left of the screen;
3) Crash-handler application started whining about nautilus and an
applet-indicator crashes. Repeatedly.

I add the logs of this stuff. Most of error messages are located in
syslog. They're easy to find, just look for the word error.

I'll wait for further instruction. Thanks for the help.

2010-03-05 Thread Bryce Harrington
[This is an automatic notification.]

Thanks for reporting this bug to help making the -ati graphics driver
better. We hear from upstream that a number of bugs (possibly including
this one) have been fixed in the newer DRM code from the 2.6.33 kernel.
I don't know if your bug is one of the ones fixed in this release,
though, but we've prepared a PPA with this DRM update. Would you mind
installing this, rebooting, and testing if the original issue can be
reproduced with it or not?

The DRM PPA is here:

https://edge.launchpad.net/~apw/+archive/red

Note there could be new bugs... please file these as new reports using
the command 'ubuntu-bug linux' (for kernel or DRM or KMS bugs) or
'ubuntu-bug xorg' if you suspect them to be X.org issues.

Lucid on this laptop is still unusable, since it loops for ever on the

Here to you the logs from xorg and dmesg.

Let me know what I can do to help.

I'm experiencing the same problem. I Tried with both EXA and XAA and I
will attach output from those tries.

It seems that setting Option RenderAccel off (borrowed from release
notes of karmic) helps a bit; at least I can gain the desktop. But, as
soon as I do something everythings hangs again and bye bye to lucid
lynx.

Tomorrow I'll attach output from RenderAccel=off.

Here to serve

maybe i was too optimistic.
after today's upgrades, desktop can't load anymore with 24 bits.
there was xorg update to 1.7.3.902-1ubuntu7 , but i reverted it to the original

lucid is greatly improving. after the recent updates, the desktop can load with
default settings (24 bits, KMS, no xorg.conf) it's a bit slow though, xv output

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 478493] Re: [M6 LY] radeon kms doesn't work

2009-11-08 Thread a.tom

** Attachment added: xorg_EXA24.log
   http://launchpadlibrarian.net/35374006/xorg_EXA24.log

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

setting radeon.modeset=1 makes the X session unloadable
i've tried it with EXA and XAA accelmethods, on 16 and 24 bits
XAA seems making no difference (actually it seems in the log that EXA is used
whether I set XAA or not)
  so here are the symptoms:

  e...@24 bits:
loading and splash seems fine, but upon the X session start (i use autoload)
i can only see the panel loaded, and after a few secs i'm dropped back to the
login screen. i can switch to VT. colours and size are normal both in login
screen and VT.

  e...@16 bits:
loading and splash seems fine, but on X session start, i can see my
background and the auto-starting apps 4 times tiled on the screen, and
everything is dimmed and greenish, except for the mouse pointer. after a few
secs i'm dropped back to login screen. it's tiled on the screen 4 times, and
dimmed green too. the vt's size is normal, but it's also green

attached some logs that might be useful
+
+ driver version is
+ xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:6.12.99+git20090929.7968e1fb-0ubuntu1
