[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 578028] Re: Blank screen on boot
Still this report describes a generic symptom, and not a specific problem that can be analyzed and solved. Blank screen bugs happen for a host of different reasons, but without collecting and providing the necessary diagnostics, no analysis can be done. Refer to the link mentioned in the comment above for how to report these types of bugs. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New = Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/578028 Title: Blank screen on boot ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 578028] Re: Blank screen on boot
I am also affected by this problem. After the boot splash, sometimes the screens turns black and stays this way, no switching to TTYs is possible. Rebooting via powerbutton is possible. Most of the time this bug does not happen but only sometimes. Freshly installed Ubuntu 10.10 with no modifications (related to the boot process) on a Thinkpad X300. If the bug occurs again, I will provide a syslog for further investigation. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/578028 Title: Blank screen on boot ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 578028] Re: Blank screen on boot
I have a similar problem. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 x64 on a AMD Athlon X2 64 4800 with ATI HD2600XT and 2GB RAM. Today I wanted to upgrade my RAM to 4GB. After I've installed the new RAM the locks up after the Ubuntu loading screen. If I remove any memory chip the PC boots ok. Also if I boot in Xfailsafe mode every thing is ok. So I did some searching and there are quite a few people having this problem. It's something related to video memory overlapping the high memory around the 4GB margin (if I remember correctly) More infos here: http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33821469 Hope it helps.
