[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 595335] Re: Computer shuts down on heavy CPU usage: I get a caught signal 15, shutting down

2010-06-16 Thread Flavio Capobianco
I'm currently on lucid-proposed. But I've been having this bug for the
last week or so, before adding this source.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

- When I'm ripping a CD or doing OCR or other heavy CPU demanding
- situations the computer reboots itself and I get to glimpse a Caught
- signal 15, shutting down.
+ When I'm doing a demanding CPU activity (ripping a CD, OCR, etc), the
+ computer reboots itself and I get to glimpse a Caught signal 15,
+ shutting down.

- This only happens when I use the free ATI drivers, not with the
- proprietary fglrx.
+ This only happens while I'm on the open-source ATI drivers. When I tried
+ the proprietary fglrx drivers, it doesn't happen.

2010-06-16 Thread Flavio Capobianco
This bug may be related to #373669.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

When I'm doing a demanding CPU activity (ripping a CD, doing OCR, etc),
- the computer reboots itself and I get to glimpse a Caught signal 15,
- shutting down.
+ the computer shuts itself down due to overheating (more than 99 C).
+
+ I've tried running sudo sensors-detect but no modules were loaded.
+
+ I've also tried booting with option acpi.power_nocheck, but to no use.
+
+ I've also tried adding options radeon modeset=1 to /etc/modprobe.d
+ /radeon-kms.conf.
+
+ Lastly, I updated my BIOS from the vendor's webpage, but it didn't help
+ either.

This only happens while I'm on the open-source ATI drivers. When I tried
the proprietary fglrx drivers, I wasn't able to reproduce it.
