[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 725600] Re: nvidia EDID issue, wrong resolution selected

2011-11-08 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hey popey,

You filed this bug report against natty, but I see it's still open and
doesn't appear to have much activity recently. So, now that oneiric
is released and stable, this may be a good point for you to upgrade
and re-test if this issue is still present there.

If it's solved in the new release and you think it's worth backporting
the fix, please indicate that. Or if having the fix in the new release
is good enough, feel free to close out the bug (or let us know and we'll
close it.)

If it's not solved, leave the bug report open. I can't promise we'll
get to it (we get way more bugs filed than we can usually get to), but
your testing and feedback can help out if and when we do.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 725600] Re: nvidia EDID issue, wrong resolution selected

2011-03-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Well, even with just one attached the log makes it pretty clear that
-nvidia doesn't much like your monitor.

Hmm, by chance does it work properly when you boot into Classic Desktop
(no effects)? Perhaps

[26.834] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): The EDID read for display device CRT-0 is
invalid:
[26.834] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): unrecognized EDID Header.

I assume it makes no difference whether you're running Classic Desktop
(no effects), vs. Unity? (Sometimes that makes a difference, but I'm
guessing not in this case.)

Not sure there's much we can do to help in this case, since the EDID
handling code is internal to the proprietary driver. For a workaround
you can try hand-crafting an xorg.conf either by providing horizontal
and vertical sync rates and your preferred resolution, or by providing
an edid override.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 725600] Re: nvidia EDID issue, wrong resolution selected

2011-03-02 Thread Bryce Harrington
Yeah looks like it's definitely unhappy about your monitors' EDIDs. You
don't have any adapters or other hardware connected between the computer
and the monitors do you?

I take it you were running nouveau previously, and was able to correctly
configure to 1680x1050 via gnome-display-properties?

I assume you're using TwinView to do the dual head action, which
presumably depends on EDID being available and accurate, so that's
probably why it lets you change up to 1366x768.

If you boot with only one of the viewsonics (and no TwinView), does the
same issue occur?

2011-03-02 Thread Alan Pope
The only hardware between the card and the monitor is the little dongle
that converts DVI to VGA. These have always been connected to the card.

I was previously running okay with nouveau, and yes, had both displays
at 1680x1050.

Yes, I switch on twinview in nvidia-settings.

I have now booted with only one display connected. I have attached my
Xorg.0.log
