The problem still persists in Ubuntu 14.04. Solved it: As noted in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2154044highlight=enter+the+administrative+password gksu-properties was set to su instead of sudo. Wasn't related to amdcccle. I had exact the same issue when trying to upgrade the VirtualBox Extension pack. Same here. Same probleme with last version of ubuntu (13.04) and Catalyst (13.4). My last configuration was fine. I reinstalled completely ubuntu and began to install Catalyst first. Patch attached for Kubuntu. Could someone add code for Ubuntu? The problem is that in su_gnome(), amdxdg-su looks for gnomesu and xsu, but these don't exist. It looks simple enough to look for gksudo instead/as well. HOWEVER detectDE() inspects $GNOME_DESKTOP_SESSION_ID, the value of which is this-is- deprecated.
