I forgot to add i'm using Precise and Nvidia 290.40 proprietary drivers. If you like, though that seems a little aggressive. I couldn't reproduce lately due to lack of access to the affect system. Huh, that's very odd. When did this first start occurring? If you upgraded to oneiric recently, did it occur in previous ubuntu installations? Do you reproduce this only in gnome-terminal, or do you see it in other applications? Have you tried any other terminal programs such as xterm or terminator? Does the behavior start immediately after booting and launching a terminal, or only after some period of time? When it starts happening does it happen continually or does it come and go? If you create a guest session, are you able to reproduce the problem there? No it didn't happen in natty. It is similar to what used to happen years ago on an old thinkpad, 2009 or so. That was due to compiz, but then I also saw it with firefox.
