There are two problems: 1. The fonts have become so light, that the screen is unreadable. The problem appears to be that the characters are being rendered too thin. I have to set the fonts to bold to make the screen useable at all. I have tried changing font settings in systemsettings application appearance fonts, both size and font style. I have also tried changing fonts -- the fonts do change, but the rendering problem remains. I have also tried forcing the dpi setting, does not solve the problem. The problem also exists in gtk applications like firefox, and changing the settings in systemsettings does not fix it. 2. The fonts shrink in size. All steps mentioned in (1) tried. Further experiments: Tried booting with older kernel and nouveau driver -- same problem. Tried unloading nvidia-current module and loading nouveau module -- same problem (I did not remove anything from initramfs).
