http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/
Bugs marked as affecting the development version tend to get priority
attention.

  * The `xdiagnose` utility has functionality for enabling debugging and
analyzing a few common X problems.

  * Tag your bugs with the Ubuntu versions you have reproduced the issue
in.

  * See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting for tips on writing good bug

Relevant section of the multi-monitor specification:

"When the laptop lid is closed, the internal panel is disabled,
automatically setting the external monitor as the Primary display and
moving all windows from the internal panel across. A power-on signal is
also sent to the external display (through the H-sync and V-sync pins:
as specified in the VESA DPMS spec), to ensure that it is awake."

Hi Craig, thanks for the dmesg.

Can I get you to collect one more thing?

Please collect 'xrandr --verbose' twice with the external monitor
connected, once with the lid open and again with it closed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 921313] Re: closing laptop lid while connected to an external display does not disable the laptop screen

2012-02-09 Thread Craig Magina
I've attached the requested dmesg output. This is a fresh install and I
cannot remember whether I ever closed the laptop lid while it was hooked
up to an external display.

The key issue here is that when I close the lid, the display turns off,
but it is not removed from X causing applications to be started over on
that display.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 921313] Re: closing laptop lid while connected to an external display does not disable the laptop screen

2012-01-24 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Craig,

Please enable modesetting debugging - run 'sudo xdiagnose', it's the
first checkbox. Hit apply and let that rebuild grub, then restart your
system, reproduce the bug, and then collect 'sudo dmesg > dmesg.txt' and
attach that here.

Also, I notice this is a fresh install; did you have an earlier version
of Ubuntu installed previously? Did it show the same behavior, or is
this a regression?
