Relevant section of the multi-monitor specification: "When the laptop lid is closed, the internal panel is disabled, automatically setting the external monitor as the Primary display and moving all windows from the internal panel across. I've attached the requested dmesg output. This is a fresh install and I cannot remember whether I ever closed the laptop lid while it was hooked up to an external display. Hi Craig, Please enable modesetting debugging - run 'sudo xdiagnose', it's the first checkbox. Hit apply and let that rebuild grub, then restart your system, reproduce the bug, and then collect 'sudo dmesg > dmesg.txt' and attach that here. Also, I notice this is a fresh install; did you have an earlier version of Ubuntu installed previously?
