[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 2062060] Re: Calamares automatically creates swapfile with manual partitioning without any warning
** Changed in: calamares Status: New => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Studio Bugs, which is subscribed to calamares-settings-ubuntu in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2062060 Title: Calamares automatically creates swapfile with manual partitioning without any warning Status in Calamares: Fix Released Status in calamares package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in calamares-settings-ubuntu package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: In Calamares, when doing Manual Partitioning, there is no option to choose whether or not to create a swapfile as there is with the Erase Disk option. Instead, one would need to create it outside of the installer. However, a swapfile is created nonetheless. This is neither indicated in the Partitions panel, nor in the Summary panel, as one would expect. This appears to be caused by the `initialSwapChoice` value in /etc/calamares/modules/partition.conf which is set to `file`. Changing it to `none` eliminates the issue. So there are two things that need to be fixed here: 1. Calamares itself needs a change, including one or more of: 1. Provide an option in Manual Partitioning to choose swapfile options 2. Show the creation of swapfiles in the Summary panel 3. Don't consider the value of `initialSwapChoice` when doing Manual Partitioning 2. calamares-settings-ubuntu should change the value of `initialSwapChoice` to `none`, at least while these bugs in Calamares exist ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 24.04 Package: calamares 3.3.5-0ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 6.8.0-22.22-generic 6.8.1 Uname: Linux 6.8.0-22-generic x86_64 .etc.calamares.modules.after_bootloader_context.conf: --- dontChroot: false timeout: 120 firmwareType: "*": "-rm ${ROOT}/home/${USER}/Desktop/lubuntu-calamares.desktop" .etc.calamares.modules.finished.conf: --- restartNowMode: user-checked restartNowCommand: "systemctl -i reboot" .etc.calamares.modules.fstab.conf: crypttabOptions: luks,keyscript=/bin/cat efiMountOptions: umask=0077 .etc.calamares.modules.shellprocess_logs.conf: --- dontChroot: true timeout: 30 script: - calamares-logs-helper ${ROOT} .etc.calamares.modules.unpackfs.conf: --- unpack: - source: "/cdrom/casper/filesystem.squashfs" sourcefs: "squashfs" destination: "" ApportVersion: 2.28.0-0ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: pass CasperVersion: 1.496 CurrentDesktop: LXQt Date: Wed Apr 17 12:48:11 2024 LiveMediaBuild: Lubuntu 24.04 LTS "Noble Numbat" - Beta amd64 (20240415) RelatedPackageVersions: calamares-settings-ubuntu-common 1:24.04.28 calamares-settings-lubuntu 1:24.04.28 xfsprogs 6.6.0-1ubuntu2 btrfs-progs 6.6.3-1.1build2 SourcePackage: calamares UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/calamares/+bug/2062060/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntustudio-bugs Post to : ubuntustudio-bugs@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntustudio-bugs More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I decided I hated the breeze style and was looking for something resembling classic. Every menu within system-settings that tries to search online for new styles or icons or whatever, specifies in a file in, for example /etc/xdg/aurorae.knsrc that: ProvidersUrl=http://downloads.kde.org/ocs/providers.xml Unfortunately, the server now redirects that URL to: https://autoconfig.kde.org/ocs/providers.xml That file should be retrieved by khotnewstuff4, which also works from the commandline like: $> khotnewstuff4 /etc/xdg/aurorae.knsrc Currently, this fails, I suspect because iether it doesn't know how to handle the server redirect, or, it doesn't know how to handle HTTPS. I grabbed a copy of providers.xml and installed it in an apache2 /var/www/html folder, modified the ProvidersUrl to point to it on http://localhost... and then it worked just fine. [Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 1983862] Re: Audacity 2.4.2 FTBFS with ffmpeg 5.x
** Changed in: audacity (Debian) Status: Confirmed => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Studio Bugs, which is subscribed to audacity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: Ubuntu Studio Bugs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1983862 Title: Audacity 2.4.2 FTBFS with ffmpeg 5.x Status in audacity package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in audacity package in Debian: Fix Released Bug description: Audacity is a very high-profile, cross-platform application. As it stands. Audacity has been stagnant at 2.4.2 for several releases. 3.1 has been out for some time and is compatible with ffmpeg 5. At this point, we are finding our hand forced. 2.4.2 is incompatible with ffmpeg 5, and as such we must upgrade, patch, or remove. Users of Audacity would much rather see an upgrade, as I have seen in bug reports as of late, or in the #ubuntustudio chat. The biggest hurdles have been the telemetry which can be disabled by default as discussed via https://github.com/audacity/audacity/discussions/889. Note that the biggest requirement, wxwidgets, only recently got uploaded post-Feature Freeze, which otherwise would have made this FFe moot. This bug has been being worked on since prior to FFe, so IMO this is a bug fix that just happens to carry features with it, similar to what you'd find if wxwidgets had been uploaded prior to Feature Freeze. Basically, I'm hoping that some of the logic that can be applied here is that the exception is based mostly on the late upload of wxwidgets which was beyond the control of those involved. I think that having new features in an application is a better option than having it removed completely for the sake of a feature freeze in this case, especially when it's as high-profile of an application as this one. Currently the bootloader code only deals with i386/amd64. Whilst armhf can be a bit of a mess, I believe there is now a consensus forming around grub on arm64/aarch64. It would be great if this could be added. Similarly calamares-settings-ubuntu is not geared for the 'ports' architectures. The repo address is wrong and again the different bootloaders are not supported. Ubiquity works well with armhf/u-boot powerpc/yaboot. Calamares is definitely inferior in this regard. Everything in terms of audio devices is managed quite well with pulseaudio, bluetooth-applet, and other Gnome desktop infrastructure. It tries to hard and breaks it. It tries to hack into my bluetooth in a vain attempt to find a headset or something like that and it ruins my bluetooth support in the desktop. I am no longer able to send files or use bluetooth in anyway. First thing it does when you launch it is that it does nothing. It'll just hang. You click on the icon in the menu and you won't get any feedback. Even if you run it from the command line it will give no feedback and display no errors. It just hangs. Then you kill it and restart it a couple times and it launches successfully. Sorta. After hitting ctrl-f to work around the globalmenu bug (even though I am not using global menu) I can then edit files and such. Save them. Everything works. Of course I can no longer connect to the internet through my phone, send files, upload ringtones, use my bluetooth headset, etc. To work around you can remove the USB bluetooth adapter if you use a external one, plug it back in, and launch bluetooth-applet from the command line and it should be working again. It's not the end of the world, but Audacity should be configured to work properly in the default environment. I suggest eliminating Alsa and bluetooth support and have it not try to fight proper daemons handle it as they do a much better job. At least with PA and Bluetooth. I don't know how well Jack supports bluetooth audio devices, but Audacity really should not be allowed to do this sort of thing. I understand that it seems like a nice feature to be able to use a headset outside of Gnome, but it seems to be fundamentally incompatible with having a bluetooth adapter that is able to work with any other device. For people that may run into this problem in the future through Google or whatever here is two work arounds I suggest: 1. Remove or otherwise disable all your blueto
[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 1530365] Re: Audacity plays too fast and crashes
** Bug watch added: github.com/audacity/audacity/issues #711 https://github.com/audacity/audacity/issues/711 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Studio Bugs, which is subscribed to audacity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: Ubuntu Studio Bugs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1530365 Title: Audacity plays too fast and crashes Status in Audacity: Confirmed Status in audacity package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I use a Samson «Go mic» for recording audio with Audacity. I connect my earphones to the mic and use it for hearing both my own voice live and the computer sound (I have to select it in Ubuntu's sound output settings). This works fine for a while, and I can record and play back through the mic. Seemingly randomly, however, pressing play or otherwise trying to start playback sometimes makes Audacity skim quickly through the audio, playing garbled sounds which I assume are a fast forward version of my audio. Sometimes, it resumes normal playback before it reaches the end of the file, and everything seems fine. Most often, though, it does not, and pressing the stop button or anything else crashes Audacity. If I restart Audacity and restore the autosaved audio, the problem persists. However, selecting another audio output in Ubuntu's sound settings fixes the problem. I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 15.10, but this has been a problem since at least 15.04. I now use Audacity 2.0.6-2build1. Reading some followups and other bug reports, it seems to be caused by the new clipboard management system (introduced as a fix for the bug #170185), as reported in bug #421597. The routine ClipboardManagerImpl::_onGet is called repeatedly by an external program, with different possible clipboard formats, causing Inkscape to try and export the copied data every few seconds, in multiple formats. So far these applications are known to randomly trigger an input/output extension (on linux): - FreeRapid Downloader - jDownloader - xfce4-clipman-plugin 1.1.3 - Netbeans - xfce4-settings-helper (Xfce 4.8) - Team Viewer (teamviewerd 10.0.36) Workaround - disable offending output/export plugins (comment #87) - The original report was this: I'm getting this error when I try to edit a text object created previously with a font that's not available in this system. It looks like Inkscape has problems to resolve the font substitution and displays the error message in a popup window that keeps appearing again and again, leaving no other remedy than closing inkscape and reopening it. Ubuntu 19.04 upgraded alsa-plugins to 1.1.8. For alsa-plugins >= 1.1.7, the ALSA jack plugin is enabled by default in /etc/alsa/conf.d/50-jack.conf. The crashes are caused by a race condition when kodi's audio engine thread is enumerating the ALSA sound devices, and the udev thread is enumerating the udev devices triggered by the sound device add from turning the AVR on. When enumerating the ALSA jack plugin device, it tries to connect to connect to jackd. Since I don't have jackd installed, it fails to connect. libjack closes the socket on error, and then closes it again in it's cleanup code. Since it's closing the same file descriptor twice, it interacts with other threads that have potentially opened file descriptors, and causes the crash. This same bug could potentially affect other multi-threaded programs that enumerate ALSA devices. This is the case even when the profiles.conf file is explicitly pointed to using the -f option. In order to capture stdout/stderr messages, I start mudita24 from the command line, thus: $ mudita24 -c 1 -f /home/fawkes/.envy24control/profiles.conf On the profiles tab, I can see the named "Card-1" profile previously created using envy24control. You must specify path for '0' Cannot restore settings for card '1' in profile '2' Use current settings. Likewise should I adjust settings and click "Save active profile", the following is displayed in the terminal: Cannot find program '0'. You must specify path for '0'. Cannot store profile '2' for card '1' This behaviour is consistent, regardless of the value of the -f parameter. Setting ALSACTL_PROG to explicitly point to the installed alsactl also has no impact. The solution could be to create a folder "img" in the same folder of the svg file; save the images I need into it; import them in my project and correct the path. As you can see is not so conftable operation. 2-I suggest to add an option to inkscape setting (something like "use copy of imported images and relative path") that will automatically do the steps above. In that way, I'm also sure that it I import an image from a shared folder, it will not change. It might be that a friend modify it and I have surprises on my .svg file. 3-About clipart: inkscape import them from the web. That's fine...exept when I'm offline :( and also when I already have all the openclipart on my disk. (in debian linux I installed the openclipart package). It would nice to specify a path for the already download clipart (not /tmp :). Thank you. Following in the footsteps of Debian[1], all packages directly or indirectly depending on qt4-x11 (like this one) must either get ported to Qt 5 and uploaded to the development release or get removed (by means of demotion to -proposed or removal of the package) before the 19.04 release. If it is possible to port your package by the 18.10 release, please do so. Matching subscriptions: ubuntustudio-bugs: blender https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1850163 Title: Subdivision Surface Modifier has no effect Status in blender package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in blender package in Debian: Fix Released Bug description: Blender 2.8 eoan-universe package in Kubuntu 19.10 the command UI works but fails to do anything. The Blender Snap works as expected. Steps: 1) Start Blender 2) Select the default cube 3) Select the 'Modifiers tab' (blue wrench icon) 4) Select 'Add' 5) Select 'Subdivision Surface' from the list 6) See the Modifier is added in the panel. (OK) 7) See the Cube changes and becomes more rounded. = Not OK in eoan-universe version. It's possible the OpenSubdiv library is not present on this package I'm told. This is a showstopper for subdivision surface users. It appears that the other Blender tools work OK.
