[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 2062060] Re: Calamares automatically creates swapfile with manual partitioning without any warning

** Changed in: calamares
   Status: New => Fix Released

--

Title:
Calamares automatically creates swapfile with manual partitioning
  without any warning

Status in Calamares:
  Fix Released
Status in calamares package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in calamares-settings-ubuntu package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
In Calamares, when doing Manual Partitioning, there is no option to
choose whether or not to create a swapfile as there is with the Erase
Disk option. Instead, one would need to create it outside of the
installer. However, a swapfile is created nonetheless. This is neither
indicated in the Partitions panel, nor in the Summary panel, as one
  would expect.

This appears to be caused by the `initialSwapChoice` value in
/etc/calamares/modules/partition.conf which is set to `file`. Changing
it to `none` eliminates the issue.

So there are two things that need to be fixed here:
   1. Calamares itself needs a change, including one or more of:

[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 1978766] Re: calamares - manual parittioning - selecting partition implies FS_LABEL can be changed but it isn't (without format)

2024-04-01 Thread Bug Watch Updater

   Status: New => Fix Released

Title:
calamares - manual parittioning - selecting partition implies
FS_LABEL can be changed but it isn't (without format)

Status in Calamares:
  Fix Released
Status in calamares package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Lubuntu kinetic install to dc7700 (BIOS box, 80GB disk)

Install is "install using existing partition", which is Manual
Partitioning where SDA1 will be re-used without any format.

  ** Creating issue
  - box has two partitions; SDA1 & SDA2
  - start `calamares installer
  - select 'Manual Partitioning"
  - select SDA1 and edit
Content: KEEP
MOUNT: / (likely doesn't matter)
FS_LABEL: (put in value here)

  Click OK

  ** Expected Result

SDA1 would be selected, mounting as "/" with new File_System_Label

  ** Actual Result

SDA1 is selected, mounting as "/" with no change to File_System_Label

  ** Comment

I suspect the FILE_SYSTEM_LABEL option only applies if FORMAT is
selected; which would make sense, but the option being available
implies I can change the value, which isn't reflected with what
  occurs.

  Issue is MINOR only.

  khotnewstuff4 fails to load providers.xml

Status in KDE Base Runtime:
  Fix Released
Status in kde-runtime package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After a disk failure, I had to do a completely fresh kubuntu 16.04.1 install.
I decided I hated the breeze style and was looking for something resembling
classic.

Every menu within system-settings that tries to search online for new styles
or icons or whatever, specifies in a file in, for example
/etc/xdg/aurorae.knsrc
  that:
  ProvidersUrl=http://downloads.kde.org/ocs/providers.xml

Unfortunately, the server now redirects that URL to:
https://autoconfig.kde.org/ocs/providers.xml

That file should be retrieved by khotnewstuff4, which also works from the
  commandline like:

   $> khotnewstuff4 /etc/xdg/aurorae.knsrc

Currently, this fails, I suspect because iether it doesn't know how to handle
the
server redirect, or, it doesn't know how to handle HTTPS.

I grabbed a copy of providers.xml and installed it in an apache2
/var/www/html folder,
modified the ProvidersUrl to point to it on http://localhost... and then it
worked just fine.

Hope you folks can sort this out!
  Thanks

Unresponsive window when opening brush or color picker popup

Status in MyPaint:

Status in mypaint package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  ### Description of the problem

The whole window becomes unresponsive when you open the brush or color
picker popup window. The workaround to recover from this condition is
  pressing ESC once.

The screen recording added below will also show you another problem.
Most of the time I can't pick another brush. Sometimes it works, but I
can't consistently reproduce it. This may or may not be related to the
  frozen window situation.

  ### Basic system details

Operating system: Ubuntu 21.10 impish (amd64)
  Desktop environment: GNOME (wayland)
  MyPaint version:
  Package mypaint from universe repository

  $ mypaint --version
INFO: mypaint: Installation layout: conventional POSIX-like structure with
prefix '/usr'
  MyPaint version 2.0.1+gitexport.478280f

  ### Steps to reproduce

  Start mypaint.
Click the large brush selector at the bottom right, or the color selector
at the bottom left.
The popup brush selector window appears, but the whole window is now
unresponsive.

  ### Backtraces or error messages

[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 1983862] Re: Audacity 2.4.2 FTBFS with ffmpeg 5.x

Title:
Audacity 2.4.2 FTBFS with ffmpeg 5.x

Status in audacity package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in audacity package in Debian:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Audacity is a very high-profile, cross-platform application. As it
stands. Audacity has been stagnant at 2.4.2 for several releases. 3.1
has been out for some time and is compatible with ffmpeg 5.

At this point, we are finding our hand forced. 2.4.2 is incompatible
with ffmpeg 5, and as such we must upgrade, patch, or remove. Users of
Audacity would much rather see an upgrade, as I have seen in bug
reports as of late, or in the #ubuntustudio chat.

The biggest hurdles have been the telemetry which can be disabled by
  default as discussed via
  https://github.com/audacity/audacity/discussions/889.

Note that the biggest requirement, wxwidgets, only recently got
uploaded post-Feature Freeze, which otherwise would have made this FFe
moot. This bug has been being worked on since prior to FFe, so IMO
this is a bug fix that just happens to carry features with it, similar
to what you'd find if wxwidgets had been uploaded prior to Feature
  Freeze.

Basically, I'm hoping that some of the logic that can be applied here
is that the exception is based mostly on the late upload of wxwidgets
which was beyond the control of those involved.

I think that having new features in an application is a better option
than having it removed completely for the sake of a feature freeze in
this case, especially when it's as high-profile of an application as
  this one.

Bug description:
Looking at the upstream calamares code there doesn't seem to be any
support for the arm architectures. Currently the bootloader code only
deals with i386/amd64. Whilst armhf can be a bit of a mess, I believe
there is now a consensus forming around grub on arm64/aarch64. It
would be great if this could be added.

Similarly calamares-settings-ubuntu is not geared for the 'ports'
architectures. The repo address is wrong and again the different
  bootloaders are not supported.

Ubiquity works well with armhf/u-boot powerpc/yaboot. Calamares is
  definitely inferior in this regard.

in exploration of EFI issue & theory.. a series of repeated installs
  was performed.

this one failed I believe b/c of random circumstances (mirror sync or
packages changing on mirror) thus it's of no value & just bad luck...
  HOWEVER

the calamares error messages didn't fit on display, thus no accept
buttons and machine became stopped until ENTER was pressed (using the
button that was off-screen and un-clickable with mouse).

  Photo - https://photos.app.goo.gl/HGWiX8UAPaBjXwZx7

displays are 1280x1024, right is portrait (tilted-left) ; though
portrait display may be detected smaller (1024x768 maybe)

the error message may not have been photographed in its position as I
dragged it around to try and view accept button at bottom (which may
have been before photo was taken)..

issue is because of small screen size; occurring only today b/c of bad

I was attempting to replace sda8 (/ with format; was btrfs), and re-
  use sda9 (ext4 no format)

My drive mapping is SDA1 (ntfs; xp game), SDA2 extended partition
     with SDA2 extended divided into
     - sda5 swap
     - sda6 lubuntu 18.04 system
     - sda7 lubuntu 18.04 data (/home)
     - sda8 (was btrfs, opensuse system)
     - sda9 (ext4, was opensuse data)

  My install attempted to re-format SDA8 for /, re-use sda9 as /home

(( NOTE: SDA8 & SDA9 may have changed, I think due to the numerous
install attempts, and re-format of the old sus_sys partition, the
numbers have changed.. Either way I re-use the /home each time
  without format ))

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: audacity

Apparently Audacity is not smart enough to know that it's running
under a Gnome environment. Everything in terms of audio devices is
managed quite well with pulseaudio, bluetooth-applet, and other Gnome
desktop infrastructure. It tries to hard and breaks it. It tries to
hack into my bluetooth in a vain attempt to find a headset or
something like that and it ruins my bluetooth support in the desktop.
I am no longer able to send files or use bluetooth in anyway.

First thing it does when you launch it is that it does nothing. It'll
just hang. You click on the icon in the menu and you won't get any
feedback. Even if you run it from the command line it will give no
feedback and display no errors. It just hangs.

Then you kill it and restart it a couple times and it launches successfully.
Sorta. Besides the globalmenu bug reported in another report it displays this
error on my terminal:
  $ audacity

At that point my bluetooth support is broken and thus Audacity will
successfully open. After hitting ctrl-f to work around the globalmenu
bug (even though I am not using global menu) I can then edit files and
  such. Save them. Everything works.

Of course I can no longer connect to the internet through my phone,
send files, upload ringtones, use my bluetooth headset, etc. To work
around you can remove the USB bluetooth adapter if you use a external
one, plug it back in, and launch bluetooth-applet from the command
line and it should be working again.

It's not the end of the world, but Audacity should be configured to
work properly in the default environment.

I suggest eliminating Alsa and bluetooth support and have it not try
to fight proper daemons handle it as they do a much better job. At
least with PA and Bluetooth. I don't know how well Jack supports
bluetooth audio devices, but Audacity really should not be allowed to
do this sort of thing. I understand that it seems like a nice feature
to be able to use a headset outside of Gnome, but it seems to be
fundamentally incompatible with having a bluetooth adapter that is
able to work with any other device.

For people that may run into this problem in the future through Google or
whatever here is two work arounds I suggest:

  1. Remove or otherwise disable all your blueto

Bug description:
I use a Samson «Go mic» for recording audio with Audacity. I connect
my earphones to the mic and use it for hearing both my own voice live
and the computer sound (I have to select it in Ubuntu's sound output
  settings).

This works fine for a while, and I can record and play back through
the mic. Seemingly randomly, however, pressing play or otherwise
trying to start playback sometimes makes Audacity skim quickly through
the audio, playing garbled sounds which I assume are a fast forward
version of my audio. Sometimes, it resumes normal playback before it
reaches the end of the file, and everything seems fine. Most often,
though, it does not, and pressing the stop button or anything else
crashes Audacity. If I restart Audacity and restore the autosaved
audio, the problem persists. However, selecting another audio output
in Ubuntu's sound settings fixes the problem.

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 15.10, but this has been a problem since
at least 15.04. I now use Audacity 2.0.6-2build1.

Bug description:
UPDATE: After further investigation it turned out to be a problem related to
the copy operation, in combination with a totally unrelated running Java
program (FreeRapid).
Reading some followups and other bug reports, it seems to be caused by the
new clipboard management system (introduced as a fix for the bug #170185), as
reported in bug #421597.

The routine ClipboardManagerImpl::_onGet is called repeatedly by an
external program, with different possible clipboard formats, causing
Inkscape to try and export the copied data every few seconds, in
  multiple formats.

So far these applications are known to randomly trigger an input/output
extension (on linux):
  - FreeRapid Downloader
  - jDownloader
  - xfce4-clipman-plugin 1.1.3
  - Netbeans
  - xfce4-settings-helper (Xfce 4.8)
  - Team Viewer (teamviewerd 10.0.36)

Workaround - disable offending output/export plugins (comment #87)
  -

  The original report was this:
I'm getting this error when I try to edit a text object created previously
with a font that's not available in this system.
It looks like Inkscape has problems to resolve the font substitution and
displays the error message in a popup window that keeps appearing again and
again, leaving no other remedy than closing inkscape and reopening it.

  The error message is attached.

In the KFormula handbook:
When you type a backslash (\) you get a new empty list right away.

Inside the blue square do: \ , SPACE to get a small space.

Typing a backslash does put a new blue box in the formula.
In the box I typed \ , SPACE
The box decreased in size, but the , stayed where it was.

I tried several names: delta, oint, quad ...
All that apears in the formula are the words "delta" "oint" "quad" ...

I could only enter symbols by choosing them in the Symbols list and
clicking on the "Enter" button.

However... in the Dutch version even this didn't work.

The latex-xft-fonts are installed.
All fonts are installed system wide.

I checked in the Font Installer, administrator mode, the fonts are in
the list in the original version and in the Dutch version.

  [Test Case]
  1) Install the fonts in question
  2) Open a terminal
  3) Launch 'gedit' from the terminal

  Expected results:
gedit launches, no fontconfig warnings in the terminal

  Actual results:
gedit launches, fontconfig warnings are displayed in the terminal

  1) Open an existing mp3 file and select a range
  2) Choose File -> Export Selection in Audacity
  3) Specify a file name - mp3-without-id3-tags.mp3
  4) In the id3 editor dialog add in some tags
  5) Save the file

Check to see if id3tags are there using id3tag mp3-without-
  id3-tags.mp3.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * A bug was reported upstream in Debian against this package (#713974) in
which, if one attempts to export photos as a web gallery, it fails.

  [Test Case]

   * Import photos into Darktable, do editing as desired.

   * Attempt to export as web gallery

   * Failure occurs (either crash, error, non-responsiveness, or fails
without error: i.e. does not actually export)

  [Where problems could occur]

   * This is a simple introduction of new dependencies that were omitted in
darktable 3.2.1-2. The only issues that may occur are package conflicts,
 but this is highly unlikely.

Status in jackd2 package in Debian:

Bug description:
After upgrading to Ubuntu 19.04, I started experiencing sporadic
crashes in kodi when turning my AV receiver on. Ubuntu 19.04 upgraded
  alsa-plugins to 1.1.8. For alsa-plugins >= 1.1.7, the ALSA jack plugin
is enabled by default in /etc/alsa/conf.d/50-jack.conf.

The crashes are caused by a race condition when kodi's audio engine
thread is enumerating the ALSA sound devices, and the udev thread is
enumerating the udev devices triggered by the sound device add from
  turning the AVR on.

When enumerating the ALSA jack plugin device, it tries to connect to
connect to jackd. Since I don't have jackd installed, it fails to
connect. libjack closes the socket on error, and then closes it again
in it's cleanup code. Since it's closing the same file descriptor
twice, it interacts with other threads that have potentially opened
file descriptors, and causes the crash.

This same bug could potentially affect other multi-threaded programs
  that enumerate ALSA devices.

  Fix committed upstream:

About This Computer

I am using GNU Image Manipulation Program version 2.8.14 on Ubuntu 14.10 x64 on
my AMD Phonom II X4 machine packed with 8GB DDR3 RAM and more than the
recommended amount of SWAP-Space found in multiple locations throughout my PC,
and even though I have all this caching space and more plus a powerful
processor, GIMP still eats my computer's system resources alive even while
doing some quick editing and touch-ups, specifically when using the Heal tool -
The window will freeze up and continue what it's doing in the background, but
for that time being, it won't let me do much besides that.

It has now gotten to a point where GIMP uses so many system resources all at
one time where it locks up my (USB 2.0) keyboard for all apps and won't let me
use the keyboard at all until GIMP is done doing what it is doing.

I have even switched to the LowLatency Linux Kernel to help speed up my PC and
keep only needed background tasks while using minimal RAM.

See below for a HardInfo chart I pasted stating my Operating System

[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 1807119] Re: Cannot load/save settings

Title:
  Cannot load/save settings

Status in Mudita24:
  New
Status in mudita24 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Envy24control.
  Version: 1.0.3+svn13-6 (bionic)
  Section: Multimedia(universe)
  Ubuntu version: 18.04 LTS

Issue present from at least 16.04,

Whilst envy24control creates and maintains ~/.envy24control/profiles.conf
mudita24 fails to do so. This is the case even when the profiles.conf file is
explicitly pointed to using the -f option.

In order to capture stdout/stderr messages, I start mudita24 from the
  command line, thus:

  $ mudita24 -c 1 -f /home/fawkes/.envy24control/profiles.conf

On the profiles tab, I can see the named "Card-1" profile previously
created using envy24control. Should I click to load the settings from
this, the following output is displayed in the terminal window:

  Cannot find program '0'.
You must specify path for '0'
Cannot restore settings for card '1' in profile '2'
  Use current settings.

Likewise should I adjust settings and click "Save active profile", the
following is displayed in the terminal:

  Cannot find program '0'.
You must specify path for '0'.
Cannot store profile '2' for card '1'

This behaviour is consistent, regardless of the value of the -f
parameter. Setting ALSACTL_PROG to explicitly point to the installed
  alsactl also has no impact.

As a result of this issue, mudita24 only serves as a control for the
currently loaded profile. It cannot be used to create or manage saved
  profiles.

Improve import options (clipart and images)

Status in Inkscape:

Bug description:
1-The problem about importing openclipart has been already reported and I
quote it
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/239669

  When importing
  imgages: they keep their absolute path;
clipart: get stored in /tmp (importing the same clipart generate a new file)

Having abosolute path, it's not possible/easy (for example) send the .svg
file to a friend because the images path will be wrong.
The solution could be to create a folder "img" in the same folder of the svg
file;
  save the images I need into it;
import them in my project and correct the path.

As you can see is not so conftable operation.
2-I suggest to add an option to inkscape setting (something like "use copy of
imported images and relative path") that will automatically do the steps above.

In that way, I'm also sure that it I import an image from a shared
folder, it will not change. It might be that a friend modify it and I
have surprises on my .svg file.

3-About clipart: inkscape import them from the web. That's fine...exept when
I'm offline :( and also when I already have all the openclipart on my disk. (in
debian linux I installed the openclipart package).
It would nice to specify a path for the already download clipart (not /tmp :).

  Thank you.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Segmentation fault after any manipulation with any RAW files.

   * This breaks batch processing files, because it segfaults after
 processing the first file.

   * This has already been fixed in Debian and is a simple patch
that adds NULL checks for some pointers.

  [Test Case]

   * Run ufraw-batch from the command line. Examples:
     `ufraw-batch --embedded-image IMG_1375.CR2`
     `ufraw-batch *.PEF`

  [Regression Potential]

   * This code is used when compiled with lensfun, and runs after processing
 any file.

   * Can integrate with GIMP through gimp-ufraw and is recommended in
 Ubuntu Studio metapackages.

Status in fluidsynth package in Debian:

Bug description:
libfliudsynth provides an API to locate the default
  soundfonts. Its like below:

  ret = fluid_settings_dupstr(settings, "synth.default-soundfont", &sfont);
  if (ret == 0 || access(sfont, R_OK) != 0) {
  ret = fluid_synth_sfload(synth, sfont, TRUE);
  }

  Under ubuntu it returns
  /usr/share/soundfonts/default.sf2
but its unclear what package provides this,
if any. At least not fluid-soundfont-gm.

This font path can be specified during fluidsynth
build. The valid one under ubuntu seems to be
  /usr/share/sounds/sf2/FluidR3_GM.sf2
But as this font may not be installed, I would
suggest fluidsynth to check against the pre-defined
list of pathes, and return error if nothing is found.

Bug description:
xubuntu and ubuntustudio should not depend on apt-offline (or fix it).

apt-offline still depends on Python2, which shouldn't be used anymore
for 20.04 LTS. So either apt-offline should be ported completely to
Python3, or the seeds should remove apt-offline.

There is a Debian RC issue in apt-offline.
