Bug description:
Using Lubuntu 22.04 within a virtual machine made using virt-manager,
  KVM, and QEMU.

When Lubuntu 22.04 is installed in a language other than English, the
LibreOffice UI displays in English, despite the user's language
choice. The issue can be worked around by running "sudo apt update"
followed by "sudo apt install libreoffice-l10n-", where
is replaced with the 2-character language code (for example, de or
fr). This will cause LibreOffice to display in the correct language.

I have tested using both German and French language options at install
time - the problem exists in both scenarios.

  Reproducibility: 100%

Steps to reproduce (edited to be more precise):

  1: Open virt-manager.
2: Add a connection to "QEMU User session".
3: Create a new virtual machine under "QEMU User session". I set the OS as
"Ubuntu 21.04", since that's the newest version of Ubuntu that my version of
virt-manager supports. I gave the VM 20 GB of hard drive space, 4 GB of RAM,
and 2 CPU cores. I didn't make any other customizations.
4: Once the VM is running, select "Try or install Lubuntu" in the GRUB prompt.
5: Once Lubuntu is done booting, double-click "Install Lubuntu 22.04".
6: At the first screen of the installation, select a language other than
American English. I tried using German and French, and they both reproduced the
issue.
7: Use the default keyboard settings for your chosen language.
8: Use the "Erase disk" option when choosing where to install Lubuntu.
9: Set your name as "User", your username as "user", your computer name as
"user-germantest", and your password as "z". I also enabled automatic login
here.
10: Wait for the installation to finish, then reboot.
  11: Open LibreOffice Writer.

Expected result: The UI should be displayed in the language selected
  at install time.

Actual result: The UI displays in English, regardless of the language
  selected at install time.

  Additional notes:

I am using LibreOffice version 7.3.2 within the VM. I am using fully-
updated Ubuntu Studio 21.10 as the host OS.

Prior to running "sudo apt update", there are no LibreOffice
localization packages available in apt (as verified by doing "apt-
cache search l10n"). After the update, the packages appear.

I have not yet tested Ubuntu 22.04 for this problem, so I do not know
if this applies to Ubuntu as a whole, or to Lubuntu alone. I do intend
to test this in the near future.

Title:
speed and pitch only go to 2x and are choppy at high speed

Status in audacious-plugins package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Once you've listened at 2x speed for an extended period of time your
brain adjusts to the higher speed, and 2x starts to feel limiting.
There's a hard coded limit to the speed you can listen with the "Speed
and Pitch" plugin to 2x speed both with and without pitch disentangled
  from speed.

This patch expands this limit to 4x, and adjusts the frequency window
to be a little more, allowing for a "smoother" listen at high speeds.
In addition the max/min limits are adjusted, and the limits move in
smaller degrees (so you can get just that much closer to the speed you
can psychologically handle when listening at high speed).

2021-10-11 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Title:
unable to load externals: undefined symbol "__pow_finite" and similar

Status in puredata package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Pd-0.50.2-3 (as shipped with focal) is unable to load the external
objects (plugins) shipped in the "puredata-extra" package (which is
built from the same source package as "puredata" itself) due to a
problem with some symbols that should be provided by libm.

The missing symbols are `__exp_finite`, `__log_finite`, `__logf_finite` and
`__pow_finite`.
  The affected externals are:
  - bonk~
  - choice
  - fiddle~
  - sigmund~

The problem appears to come from a change in the symbols when
  upgrading from glibc-2.30 to glibc-2.31 (e.g. see
  https://sourceware.org/pipermail/libc-alpha/2020-May/113773.html)

A simple rebuild of the package seems to fix the problem.

To trigger a rebuild I've added a debdiff that bumps the version
number to "0.50.2-3build1~ubuntu20.04.1" (i hope this is the correct
version scheme for such an upload).

  [Test Plan]

A quick way to check whether the objects can be loaded is by running
this script (after installing the "puredata-extra" package):

  ~~~
  find /usr/lib/puredata/extra/*/ -name "*-help.pd" -exec pd -nrt -nogui -send
"pd quit" {} ";"
  ~~~

I've attached the output of such a (failing) test run (note the lines
  starting with "error:")

  [Where problems could occur]

The rebuild apparently fixes the problem, although a more correct fix would
probably be to add "-lm" to the linker-flags when building the plugins.
(This is what upstream did for the Pd-0.51 release).
In order to keep the impact of my patch minimal, i have chosen to just
trigger a rebuild.

Status in alsa-utils package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Audio gets recorded by "arecord" has really bad sound quality when the volume
is low.

  [Fix]
  https://github.com/alsa-project/alsa-utils/pull/69
Switch the default audio format from 8 bits to 16 bits if hardware supports
it.

  [Test]
  1. Plug a microphone.
  2. Run `arecord | aplay` and say something to the microphone.
  3. Only noise can be heard.

With the fix applied, the recording is clear.

  [Where problems could occur]
If there's any hardware falsely advertised to support 16 bits, this change
will break them.
  However, this is effectively using `arecord -f cd` or `arecord -f cdr`, so
that's not likely.

does not respond. Any other program that uses jack will also fail to
complete (I used jack_lsp to list jack's ports). It seems a reboot is
  needed to regain operability.

  Upstream github issue: https://github.com/falkTX/Carla/issues/1237

reverting to Carla 2.1 fixes this.

See patch below that fixes this problem. Note that some new
functionality may be lost and this patch should be considered

Title:
libjack-jackd2-0 double close on a failure to connect to jackd which
  causes crashes in multithreaded programs

Status in jackd2 package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in jackd2 package in Debian:
  New

Bug description:
After upgrading to Ubuntu 19.04, I started experiencing sporadic
crashes in kodi when turning my AV receiver on. Ubuntu 19.04 upgraded
  alsa-plugins to 1.1.8. For alsa-plugins >= 1.1.8, the ALSA jack plugin
is enabled by default in /etc/alsa/conf.d/50-jack.conf.

The crashes are caused by a race condition when kodi's audio engine
thread is enumerating the ALSA sound devices, and the udev thread is
enumerating the udev devices triggered by the sound device add from
  turning the AVR on.

When enumering the ALSA jack plugin device, it tries to connect to
connect to jackd. Since I don't have jackd installed, it fails to
connect. libjack closes the socket on error, and then closes it again
in it's cleanup code. Since it's closing the same file descriptor
twice, it interacts with other threads that have potentially opened
file descriptors, and causes the crash.

This same bug could potentially affect other multithreaded programs
  that enumerate ALSA devices.

[SRU] Update to maintenance release 2.2.4 in Bionic

Status in lyx package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  http://www.lyx.org/announce/2_2_4.txt

Public release of LyX version 2.2.4
  ===

We are proud to announce the release of LyX 2.2.4. This is the fourth and
final maintenance release in the 2.2.x series.

You can download LyX 2.2.4 from http://www.lyx.org/Download/.

LyX is a document processor that encourages an approach to writing based
on the structure of your documents and not simply their appearance. It is
released under a Free and Open Source Software license.

LyX 2.2.4 is the result of on-going efforts to make our stable version more
reliable and more stable. We have fixed a number of bugs and made several
improvements. Most users, however, will want to upgrade to LyX 2.3.0, which
was released shortly before 2.2.4. Users who want or need to continue using
the 2.2.x series, however, should in most cases upgrade to 2.2.4. Perhaps its
most important new feature is that it is able to read and write files in the
2.3.x format. Please note, however, that the conversion process back and
forth
usually will not leave one with an identical file, so we do not recommend that
users of 2.2.4 try to collaborate with users of 2.3.x.

We hope you enjoy using LyX 2.2.4.

  The LyX team.

the library, so attempts to import modules from the package fail with,
  eg:

  rachel@rarity:/etc$ python -m ImageMode && echo ok

When the PIL.pth file is manually created, so python can find it, the
Image module itself still fails to load:

The ImageMode module that line seems to be trying to import, however,
seems to import fine by itself:

  rachel@rarity:/etc$ python -m ImageMode && echo ok
  ok

(I've confirmed that ImageMode comes from the same place, as if I
remove PIL.pth again, the above line just returns the "No module named
  ImageMode" error)

I've tried reinstalling python-imaging already. I note in any case the
PIL.pth file is missing on the file list available at
  packages.ubuntu.com for raring.

This is on Ubuntu Raring as updated from Ubuntu Quantal a few days

[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 1678417] Re: Please rebuild pd-aubio against libaubio5

Title:
  Please rebuild pd-aubio against libaubio5

Status in pd-aubio package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Ardour and aubio are currently stuck in zesty proposed. Rik Mills's
  analysis:

  "From update-output.txt

  trying: denemo aubio ardour
  skipped: denemo aubio ardour (0, 0, 13)
  got: 42+0: a-19:a-4:a-4:i-5:p-4:s-6
  * amd64: pd-aubio

Seems to migrate it needs to do that with newer aubio etc.

  e.g. looking at
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/zesty/amd64/ardour/1:5.5.0~dfsg-1

new ardour built against and depends on the libaubio5 in proposed, so
needs that to migrate with it.

But the update-output.txt is saying that would break pd-aubio, which
makes sense if you dig into it as pb-aubio in release depends on
libaubio4 which would be replaced by libaubio5.

  http://packages.ubuntu.com/zesty/pd-aubio

So as a first guess, maybe pb-audio could have a rebuild against the new
aubio to depend on the newer lib in proposed instead, so all that
migrating does not break it? I don't know this stack and it's deps, so I
am somewhat guessing here if that would work or rebuild ok."

I can confirm that pd-aubio builds fine against libaubio5 in Debian
sid. We need to start the transition and then rebuild pd-aubio against
  the aubio currently in zesty-proposed.

That's problematic for Lubuntu to ship both toolkit at the same time

2016-04-12 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

nameless palettes show up in inkscape palette selection tool

Status in Inkscape:
  In Progress
Status in inkscape package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: inkscape

  UPDATED DESCRIPTION 2011-05-11 (AV):
When Inkscape loads a palette file (in GIMP .gpl format), it uses the
contents of the "Name: " header in the file to create a label in the palette
selector. If the "Name: " header is missing, then the palette selector label
remains unset.

Inkscape should handle this situation by providing a fallback, for
example the palette filename or a default string such as "Unnamed
  palette"

  ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION:
At the bottom right corner, the colour palette changer resides. I can change
the palettes as expected, but some palettes show up without a name (but
switching to them changes the palette shown in the bottom line). An
illustrating screenshot is attached.

Deleting ~/.config/inkscape and restarting inkscape does not resolve
  the issue.

settings from saved config files are not loaded correctly

Status in qmidiroute package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
It seems settings are loaded to the GUI ok, but not to the map
itself. This bug is very reproducible:

  - Add a new midiroute
  - change the Output Note mode to fixed
  - save this route to a file like test.qmr
  - load test.qmr again.
  - Everything looks good.
  - Save as a different name like test2.qmr
  - load test2.qmr file.
  - the output note mode is now Offset and not the Fixed mode I saved. (or
  thought I saved)

The truth is that when I reloaded test.qmr, the GUI was updated, but the map
was not, so when I saved test2.qmr, it was different from test.qmr.

Title:
  Pavucontrol doesn't resize icons

Status in pavucontrol package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Running Ubuntu 15.04, pavucontrol 2.0-3.
There is a known bug where pulseaudio doesn't resize big icons. Might be
related to this https://launchpad.net/bugs/1175416.

However after upgrading to 15.04 I also noticed that some system icons
(sound card icon) were bigger than normal as well, which is another
  bug.

  https://vps.tasossah.com/misc/pavucontrol_bug.jpg
In the above screenshot, the Rhythmbox icon is normal, the soundcard icon is
bigger than normal (happened only after the upgrade), and the steam icon is
huge.

In the attached patch, the code responsible for setting the icons has
been altered to scale icons to the appropriate sizes, so both bugs are
  fixed by it.

To be a bit more detailed, for the first issue, instead of the icon
being loaded from the path directly, it gets loaded into a pixbuf and
  scaled to the appropriate size.

For the second issue, the flag ICON_LOOKUP_FORCE_SIZE is specified in
order to return theme icons in the resolution that was requested,
instead of returning a similar one.

  The result after the patch:

A patch is attached that fixes the problem. This patch is a backport of the

  Fix Released

Bug description:
Inkscape community proudly announces the 0.91 release of Inkscape! Please
update Ubuntu 15.04 packages to the latest stable Inkscape version.
Packages for Uuntu 14.x, 12.04 and 15.04 are available at
ppa:inkscape.dev/stable - see
  https://launchpad.net/~inkscape.dev/+archive/ubuntu/stable

This release marks the culmination of a multi-year effort to switch to a new
internal graphics rendering engine, Cairo. This brings performance enhancements
and more accurate rendering of drawings.
A new Trace Pixel Art feature enables creation of vector art from bitmaps,
sprites, and icons. A new Symbols Library provides reusable graphics elements -
you can even read in Visio symbol libraries. New Snapping options and improved
Snap preferences make it easier to quickly place items in the alignments you
need. The tools for arranging objects offer several new ways to position the
elements of a drawing. Tons of other little improvements have been made across
all the other tools as well.
  Several new file formats are supported, including FXG, SIF and HTML5 export;
and VSD and CDR import. EMF/WMF are now readable and writable for all
platforms. And XCF, PDF, EPS, and PS+LaTeX support are improved.
Inkscape has a rich Extension ecosystem, which is well known for bringing
clever, cool, and innovative new ideas. Over a dozen new extensions are added
in this release, including an Isometric Grid Generator, a Bitmap Cropper, a
Text Extractor and a Text Merger, an HSL Adjuster, a Font Replacer, a Voronoï
Diagram Creator, and more.
The above barely scratches the surface of all the new stuff included in this
release. For the full story, including examples and screenshots, please see our
detailed Release Notes:

2015-02-05 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

Huge Memory consumption by extension and pipe not closed

Status in Inkscape: A Vector Drawing Tool:
  Triaged
Status in “inkscape” package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in “inkscape” package in Arch Linux:
  New
Status in Mandriva Linux:
  New

Bug description:
  Hi,

I was just playing around the different extension and I come to know a
  strange result.

As per my understanding about Inkscape extension is as below.

When any extesnion apply it creates temp. file in /tmp folder (in
Linux) with extension effect and copy the temp. file using copy_doc
  function (in script.cpp_ file.

Now to just play around I just comment the line
  copy_doc(doc->doc()->rroot, mydoc->rroot);
from script.cpp file, now this will not display extension result on the
screen but open pipes(fifo) to run the script, now every time pipes open to run
the script as child process, but this pipes are not closed hence after some
time it will give error as
Can't Spawn!!! spawn returns: Failed to create pipe for communicating with
child process (Too many open files
which is why max. file descriptor limit reached.

So this is one thing about pipes.

Now second thing is huge memory consumption, to generate the scenario please
do the steps as below.
  Open Inkscape
  Go to extension->Render->Gear
  Now Just click Apply

Now if you just applying the same plugin again and again inkscape
memory will keep increasing, and If we delete the resulting effect by
extension then also it is not getting free.

You can also apply different extension to generate the same memory
issue. I did it on inkscape version 0.84.4 on Ubuntu 10.04 and Ubuntu
  12.04 and results are same.

Now I have debug the things and I found that when extension create new
file and it is copied using copy_doc into original doc at that time
inkscape also create Root, Metadata, namedview element, which is I
think inkscape default, that creates when inkscape start and they will
remain in memory until inkscape exit.

So I think when new svg copied to the original at that time it start
  eating memory.

I was behind this from last 2 days and while searching for memory leak
issue when applying extension, I found this.

I don't know how to contact developer, But If you give me more hints I
can give you better testing feedback. In this bug If you require
further details, please let me know. Also please let me know If there
is any quick work around are possible to reduce memory usage.

  [Impact]

Some users are unable to start Pitivi on 14.04 LTS, because of a
  crasher.

  [Test Case]

  Start pitivi on affected computer.

  [Regression Potential]

The suggested patch that fixes the problem changes the load order in
python, which seem fragile then. However at least testing on one
computer that did not have the crash originally, the fix doesn't break
  anything either.

  ---

I just upgraded to Kubuntu 14.04 (Trusty) yesterday, and pitivi
stopped working. It segfaults immediately, with the following stdout
  error:

  lmilano@grisell:crash$ pitivi
  Missing soft dependency:
  - pycanberra not found on the system
-> enables sound notifications when rendering is complete
  Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Apport is not popping up, even if I launch pitivi from the main menu
in KDE. But it did, just once, and it dumped a report in /var/crash -
I will try to upload that file manually.

  Details

PD does not check during loading the configuration, if the configuration file

Bug description:
UPDATE: After further investigation it turned out to be a problem related to
the copy operation, in combination with a totally unrelated running Java
program (FreeRapid).
Reading some followups and other bug reports, it seems to be caused by the
new clipboard management system (introduced as a fix for the bug #170185), as
reported in bug #421597

So far these applications are known to randomly trigger an input/output
extension (on linux):
  - FreeRapid Downloader
  - jDownloader
  - xfce4-clipman-plugin 1.1.3
  - Netbeans
  - xfce4-settings-helper (Xfce 4.8)

  -

  The original report was this:
I'm getting this error when I try to edit a text object created previously
with a font that's not available in this system.
It looks like Inkscape has problems to resolve the font substitution and
displays the error message in a popup window that keeps appearing again and
again, leaving no other remedy than closing inkscape and reopening it.

  The error message is attached.
