Beware wolves in sheepskins

*Stephen Mpofu Features Correspondent*

In old traditional farming practices in Zimbabwe, mixed cropping was used
as a technology to confuse pests.

Today, however, can anyone say with equanimity that the crop mixing of
non-governmental organisations in this country has any benefits for the
nation?
In fact, are the so-called non-governmental organisations genuine purveyors
of benevolence to poor nations, or are they hit squads as proxies of
Western governments intent on changing political order in African countries
whose policies the donors abhor?

A “yes” or “no” answer will not do justice to the question, a “yes” and
“no” answer provides a point of departure in motivating discussion on the
real motives behind the planting of non-governmental organisations in
almost all donor-fund recipient developing countries.

Zimbabwe becomes a basket case in point, especially with recent disclosures
in Britain by self-anointed dubious Friends of Zimbabwe to the effect that
they had funnelled as much a US$2,6 billion for what they termed
transitional development in the country since the formation of the
inclusive government by Zanu-PF and the two MDC formations.

Now look carefully at what is going on the ground in Zimbabwe and you
wonder, gap-mouthed, where all that money went because your eye will be met
with countless numbers of former workers trudging the streets after the
same “Friends of Zimbabwe” shut down factories through their diabolic
economic sanctions imposed as a reprisal for Zimbabwe’s land reform
programme.

And you see children pushing distended bellies for lack of nutrition after
the same “Friends of Zimbabwe” snatched food from the mouths of these
children by ruining the jobs of their parent — breadwinners.

Look around again everywhere in the country and you are won’t to be met
with forlorn facts as the future for most Zimbabweans grows bleaker,
bleaker and more opaque and so this is what the dear friends of Zimbabwe
call transitional development.

Of course, all right thinking people know that transitional development is
nothing, but a metaphor for regime change that the West has wanted and
continues to want to exact by sidelining, and if possible obliterating
altogether, Zanu-PF and its leader, President Mugabe, from the political
scene in Zimbabwe to pave way for blue-eyed boys of the West to rule the
country so that Zimbabwe might become a political and economic playground
of the imperialist.

What this suggests, therefore, is that some, if not most of governmental
bodies operating in Zimbabwe are conduits through which the proponents of
regime change have pumped those billions which has obviously ended up in
the bottomless pockets of leaders of some political entities in this
country as agents of the much wanted change of Government.

These people, who run with the hare and hunt with the foreign hounds, have
obviously fattened themselves on the huge windfall, or have they invested
the dirty money in hopes of spending it on so-called transitional
development when in power themselves without Zanu-PF which the West
obviously regards as a political demagogue and one from which Zimbabweans
must be spared?

However, the people of this country know on which side their bread is
buttered and so no amount of political witchcrafting with imperialist
quislings running the errands as goblins will hoodwink Zimbabweans into
turning their backs on people and the party that have freed them from an
iniquitous colonial government that had turned them into slaves on their
own land.

It would, however, be grossly unfair of this pen to compartmentalise all
non-governmental organisations in this country as being good for nothing.
This is because there are those bodies operating out of the realm of
Government authority and which go out of their way in times of need to
serve the people of this country, say, by providing food aide or some such
requirements to keep soul and body together.

There are also those bodies operating outside of the framework of
Government and which work for the elevation of women from walking
perpetually in the long shadows of men and to equality with them in every
aspect of human life.

These are to be celebrated by all who do not pay lip service to equality.
Nonetheless, those local non-governmental organisations that walk a
revolutionary pathway and a revolution promotes equality and is probably
more democratic than the much vaunted democracy of the West are to be
counted on one hand.

Be that as it may, this pen humbly, but strongly believes that the powers
that be in our country should take such measures as will safeguard the
lives of Zimbabweans from hyenas that come to us in sheepskin camouflaging
their evil intentions, but claiming to be our friends.

For instance, is there any godly reason under the sun for foreign
non-governmental organisations to continue with their mischief making, in
the process destabilising the country, while the Government

Edward Mulindwa, East Africa Federation is the solution for Rwanda-Burundi
historical intra conflicts and it is high time Uganda and Rwanda sent their
armies in DR Congo to flash out negative forces. This is more practical than
sending their SADC forces made up of Tanzania, Malawi and South Africa.

Take an examle of Somalia, initially they had barred neighbours like Ethiopia,
Kenya and Djibouti, but Uganda and Burundi had not made a break through. The
moment the neighbours were allowed, then there was progress.

So, Uganda and Rwanda should help to flash out negative forces from DR Congo.

Former Rwandan Prime Minister Faustin Twagiramungu and Gérard Karangwa Semushi
announce their return to Kigali to run for presidential elections in 2017.

Developments related to the conflict in the eastern DRC indicate a renewed wave
of interest in a protracted crisis, which has already lasted for nearly 20
years. In recent weeks, former CNDP leader Bosco Ntanganda handed himself over
to the ICC in The Hague, Mary Robinson was appointed the UN special envoy for
the Great Lakes region, the Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework for the
DRC (and region) was signed and the UN security council approved the creation
of an “offensive” combat force with the intent to “neutralize and disarm” all
negative armed forces in the DRC. All these elements, taken together, make it
appear that serious action is now being undertaken to tackle the causes of
conflict. However, two aspects are currently overlooked: the local requirements
for peace in the DRC, and the main subject to be discussed here – the impact of
future political power shifts in Kigali.

Give every Clan Elder in Uganda, actually every Clan Elder in Buganda or
Northern Uganda a gun and a Militia, you have Somalia. It seems at a
certain point, certain traditional non-violent means of solving what used to
be traditional conflicts completely turned into a life or death struggle.

Yes, History tells us of some tribes raiding other tribes or certain clan

Police converge on neighbourhood outside Boston amid reports of explosions

WATERTOWN, Mass. - Police have converged on a neighbourhood outside Boston
where there were reports of explosives being detonated and police are
telling reporters to turn off their cellphones.

Dozens of officers and National Guard members are in Watertown, where
television outlets report that gunfire and explosions have been heard. A
helicopter is circling overhead.

Authorities early Friday were calling for somebody to get on the ground and
put their hands up and a loud thud was heard after someone shouted fire in
the hole.

Reporters are being told to move away from the scene. A police officer told
a reporter: If you want to live, turn off your cellphone.

Earlier Thursday night a campus police officer was shot and killed at MIT
and authorities were searching for the person responsible.

A Calgary student slaughtered a chicken in the cafeteria of Alberta College
of Art and Design today.

The act was a performance piece for a school project, but some students say
it went too far.

“He just decided to slowly slit it's throat while it's wiggling, wriggling
and screaming and then drained it out, popped it's head off, strung it up,
washed it, plucked it,” said Breydon Stangland, a student who saw the
noon-hour act.

After that, the student dropped the dead chicken into a pot, as if he was
preparing to eat it.

Some of the the students in the cafeteria were shocked by the performance
and Calgary police were called.

I did not feel like this was art at all,” said fourth-year student
Charlotte Emmott.

“I didn't understand his statement. Like, just killing a chicken, you can
take away a life — I just didn't understand that at all.”

Student Casey Switzer also questioned the performance.

I don't think it is very good to just do that and subject people to seeing
that without you know, giving them any warning. Plus, in a cafeteria where
we're eating food — that's not OK.”

Joanne Townsend takes classes with the student who killed the chicken. She
said the performance piece was part of a sculpture project called Fact or
Fiction.

There is parts that we were all discussing — it was quite beautiful, and
not in the gross, gruesome way, but in the way that you know you respect
what's happening and this is life and things go on.

I understand that people are allowed to have their own opinions on how they
feel about things, but ACAD's a great community and it's a great place.

ACAD administrators said they don’t encourage this type of performance and
said the college will take a few days to decide what to do.

The school posted on Facebook that counselling support is available for
those who may require it.

The mental and physical health of our students is always the most important
to us. If any students who are experiencing grief and or shock would like to
speak to someone, you are welcome to contact our counsellor, the post read.

Police said no charges will be laid.
