The percentage of non-Hispanic whites in the U.S. is now at the lowest level
in U.S. history, according to data from the Census Bureau. 

 

America's racial and ethnic minorities now make up about half of the under-5
age group, the Census Bureau said on Thursday.

 

Racial and ethnic minorities are now growing more rapidly in numbers than
whites, fueled by immigration and high birth rates. 

 

Non-white children under the age of 18 are expected to overtake the number
of white children by 2019, the Bureau said last year. 

 

Indeed, the U.S. is projected to become a majority-minority nation sometime
around mid-century.

 

The population of non-Hispanic whites was 197.7 million last year, about 63
percent of the total population.

 

The total estimated U.S. population climbed 0.75 percent last year to
313,914,040. The relatively small increase in population in 2012 was most
likely due to the nation’s weak economic performance in recent years.

 

“If you look at the last few years, it’s hard to tie the slow growth to a
rational argument that doesn’t involve the economy,” John Seager, president
of the Population Connection, a Washington-based research organization, told
Bloomberg. 

 

Also, the changing demographics in the U.S. has led to debates about whether
programs such as affirmative action in college admissions should be revamped
to focus more on income rather than race and ethnicity.

 

Inequality between rich and poor in the U.S. has reached to its highest
level since 1970, making opportunities to reach the middle class
increasingly difficult.

 

That rising inequality has been particularly noticeable for black and
Hispanic families compared with white families, according to recent a study
from the Urban Institute.

 

As of 2010, white families, on average, earned about twice as much as black
and Hispanic families, a ratio that has remained quite unchanged for the

in Iraq: America's Toxic Legacy

America's Gulf War, intermittent bombings in the 1990s, the 2003 war, and
aftermath left a toxic legacy. 

Children born with two heads reflect it. Some had only one eye. Missing
sockets look like the inside of an oyster. They're milky and shapeless. 

Some children had tails like a skinned lamb. One or more had a monkey's
face. Girls had their legs grown together. They were half fish, half human. 

Miscarriages are frequent. Hundreds of newborns have cleft pallets,
elongated heads, overgrown or short limbs, and other malformed body parts.
Some are too gruesome to view. 

Deformed Iraqi newborns are commonplace. So are virtually every known
illness and disease. They're inordinately frequent. They range from severe
headaches, muscle pain and debilitating fatigue, to serious infections,
cardiovascular disease, brain tumors and numerous type cancers. 

They include leukemia, Hodgkin's disease and multiple myeloma. Others affect
the bile ducts, bones, brain, breasts, colon, prostate, esophagus, gall
bladder, liver, lungs, pancreas, pharynx, ovaries, salivary glands, small
intestine, stomach, thyroid, urinary tract, and pelvis. 

Cancer's been around a long time. In October 2010,
 Nature.com
headlined "Cancer: an old disease, a new disease or something in between?" 

It said a "striking rarity of malignancies in ancient physical remains might
indicate that cancer was rare in antiquityâ¤|." 

University of Illinois School of Public Health/Cancer Prevention Coalition
Chairman/Professor Emeritus Samuel S. Epstein titled his 1978 award-winning
book "
 The
Politics of Cancer." 

Twenty years later, he updated it. It's called "
 The Politics of Cancer Revisited." 

He's an internationally recognized cancer expert. He calls it a growth
industry. Over recent decades, the incidence of numerous types skyrocketed. 

He referred to doing so in modern societies. Iraq and other US war theaters
are different. Iraq perhaps is in a class of its own. Vast parts of the
country are irradiated. 

On May 21,  
Science Daily headlined "Cancer and Birth Defects in Iraq: The Nuclear
Legacy," saying: 

Ten years after the 2003 war, Mosul-based scientists "detected high levels
of uranium contamination in soil samples at three sites in the province of
Nineveh which, coupled with dramatically increasing rates of childhood
cancers and birth defects at local hospitals." 

Iraq's a toxic wasteland. Scores of pollutants include dangerous chemicals
and metals, oil, gasoline, pesticides, bacteria, other poisons, and
irradiation. Widespread depleted uranium use caused it. 

US bombs, missiles, shells and bullets use solid DU projectiles or warheads.
They're de facto nuclear bombs. Their widespread use is more harmful than
Hiroshima and Nagasaki. 

Inhaled or ingested DU particles or dust is highly toxic. They're designated
illegal weapons for good reason. America prioritizes their use. Iraqis
suffer horrendously. 

Radioactive contamination is virtually everywhere. DU's half-life is 4.5
billion years. Contamination is permanent. According to Helen Caldicott: 

America's two Iraq wars "have been nuclear wars because they have scattered
nuclear material across the land, and people, particularly children, are
condemned to die of malignancy and congenital disease essentially for
eternity."

sevenfold. Over one-third of US Gulf War vets are dead, seriously ill, or
permanently disabled. 

Science Daily said widespread "carcinogenic material across Iraq suggests
the public health legacy of the two Gulf Wars is only going to get worse."
It does so annually. 

In October 2012,
 London's Guardian headlined "The victims of Fallujah's health
crisis are stifled by western silence." 

Four new studies link "one of the most severe public health crises in
history" to America's two November 2004 assaults on the city. Cancer rates
and birth defects spiked dramatically. 

Cancer expert Dr. Chris Busby studied conditions. He called Fallujah's
crisis "the highest rate of genetic damage in any population ever studied." 

In some respects, Basra replicates it. Its neural tube defects (aka "open
back") incidence is unprecedented. Numbers keep rising. 

Hydrocenphalus (water on the brain) cases among newborns are sixfold higher
than America. US munitions bear full responsibility.

[Ugnet] THE BATTLE OF AL-QUSAYR CAN BE DEFINED AS A VICTORY

US and Israel Lobby reel from Hezbollah al-Qusayr victory

Beirut -- Although al-Qusayr may not be the decisive battle for Syria, it is

irrefutably an important turning point in the crisis which has given the
regime 
much sought military momentum. Plenty of adjectives and some clichés 
are being bandied about from Washington to Beirut to describe the al-Qusayr 
battle results and significance.  Among them are "game-changer," "mother 
of all battles," "altered balance of power," critical "turning point in the
civil 
war," “Divine victory”  and so on.

It does appear that the victory of the Syrian government forces at al-Qusayr

is a strategic achievement, if also a humanitarian disaster for the civilian

population still waiting for the ICRC and SARCS, (Syrian Arab Red Crescent 
Society) emergency help. Al Qusayr is located in Homs province, an area 
central to the success of the Syrian government’s military strategy. It is 
situated just west of the shortest route from Damascus to the coast, at a 
juncture where regime forces have struggled to maintain control. Rebel 
control of al-Qusayr had disrupted the regime’s supply lines from the port
of 
Tartus and was open for the cross-border movement of Gulf arms to rebels 
via Lebanon's Bekaa Valley.

Government control of al-Qusayr also provides a ground base for the Assad 
government to move to retake control of the north and east of Syria. This 
cross-roads city just 6 miles from the Lebanese border has many strategic 
ramifications: breaking the opposition's 18 month control of much of Homs 
province, facilitating government forces momentum generally across Syria, 
and psychological, by raising the morale of exhausted Syrian forces while 
energizing the Assad government and its allies to finish the conflict and
focus 
on long-promised reforms and try to relieve Syria from the nearly 27 months 
of hell for its people.

Perhaps less appreciated here in Beirut are al-Qusayr’s effects on the
Zionist 
occupiers of Palestine and their currently traumatized US lobby.

Several aspects of “the Qusayr rules and results” are being discussed at the

HQ of the racist anti-Defamation League (ADL) which has summoned an 
emergency gathering of the Conference of Presidents of Major American 
Jewish Organizations to craft a solution to the problem. The tentative
agenda 
reportedly includes for discussion and action the following:

The twin defeats at al-Qusayr and at Burgas, Bulgaria -- the latter, in
which 
Bulgaria is claiming there is no probative evidence to conclude that 
Hezbollah was involved in the attack on Israelis last year --  should not be

underestimated, according to one AIPAC activist who works on the House 
Foreign Affairs Committee, given that it substantially knocks out the props 
from the lobby’s project to get the European Union to list Hezbollah as a 
terrorist organization, thus interfering with the Islamist party’s
fundraising. 
The lobby is reacting angrily to Austria’s Chancellor Werner Faymann and 
Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger’s statement about that country’s 
decision to withdraw its 380 peacekeeping troops, more than one-third of the

1000 United Nations Disengagement Observer Force, (UNDOF) contingent, 
from the Golan Heights.

The lobby is claiming that this Austrian move constituents an existential
threat 
to Israel because it opens the Quneitra crossing, the door to the Golan, for
the 
Syrian civil war to spill over the border into Israel. At the same time it
is 
being argued that al Qusayr lifts pressure off Hezbollah, Iran and Syria as 
well as the Palestinian resistance and gain all more fighters who sense
victory 
for the current regime and major gains for all in the political dynamics of 
the region.

The Israel embassy in Washington has chimed in with a statement that the 
Austrian withdrawal threatened the role of the UN Security Council in any 
future negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, while at the same 
time encouraging Hezbollah to move into the Golan.
