Would Peter Otai as a defense minister allow any minister of the Amin’s
government returned to Uganda and officially buried? Do we have a name of an
Amin’s minister that was ever returned into Uganda and buried by the UPC party?
It is a miracle that the UPC 2 government never dug out Ssekabaka Mutesa and
returned him to London, that was a surprise, whether it happened with good
intention, or because the Obote two government was so busy murdering Ugandans,
and breaking up into small pieces that created Museveni, so it never had the
time to dig him out we may never know. But when ever a UPC member has died,
Ugandans have looked the other way and allowed the red shirts to receive the
individual and handed the official burial as well.
The challenge to UPC members in this forum this Toronto morning, it to post
only one name of a Ugandan they gave an official funeral, when he/she is not a
UPC member. Only one name. It is that kind of stupidity why you all, die in
diaspora.

The body of the former state minister of Defence who served in the Obote II
government, Peter Otai, was on Saturday laid to rest at his home in Oderia,
Soroti Sub County.
The Prime minister, Ruhakana Rugunda, while delivering President Museveni’s
condolence message, said the late was allowed to return although his health had
deteriorated.
Mr Museveni praised Otai for having accepted to return peace to Teso through
accepting to work with the presidential commission for Teso that ended the
Uganda People’s Army rebellion.
He said the amnesty was provided for people to surrender unconditionally, which
ended after peace returned.
“There was no need of bearing grudges that had divided us, this guided us to
extend an olive branch to our brothers to build our country,” the president
said.
“Government was in touch with Peter Otai and his family, he wanted to return to
his country and there was no contest about it, but it’s unfortunate because his
health couldn’t allow him to return,” Mr Museveni said.
Church of Uganda Bishop Kosea Odongo told mourners that it was shameful for the
government to block the return of Otai when he was still alive, but instead
okayed the return of his lifeless body .
“We expected Otai to have come back to Uganda, his home country alive but
circumstances never allowed because some people were not comfortable with his
values,” Mr Odongo said.
“We thank God and the government for allowing the body back,” the bishop said.
He praised Otai as a man who stood for his values.
The FDC party president, Patrick Amuriat, said Otai never returned home because
he never trusted the NRM government.
“Just like the founding father of Uganda,[Obote], who returned home in a box to
Akokoro, for how long should we receive our people in boxes?,” Mr Amuriat asked.
He appealed to government to treat all citizens equally, saying the political
situation is bent on torturing and suffocating those in opposition.
Mr Amuriat said he was born in Soroti but he wonders why whenever he comes
home, he is teargassed.
He said government should take the onus to have the home of Otai renovated.
