Re: [Unattended-Dev] Thunderbird and Firefox ESR (Extended Support Release)

2012-04-19 Thread Johan Ho
Huh strange, I had subscribed to the e-mail digest for this mailing
list, but I didn't get any of your replies! Couldn't even find any
mention of them in our maillog. Tried turning off digest mode for now.

Anyways, I decided to try out Thunderbird 11, but had some problems with
lagging possibly whenever it was checking for new mail. Either that or
when the Lightning calendar addon updated the calendars.

So now I'm downgraded to Thunderbird 10 ESR to see if it has less lag. I
was thinking of using something like thunderbird_esr.bat and
firefox_esr.bat for the file names, but do you think it's better to use
thunderbird10.bat and firefox10.bat to separate the different versions
even more?

Any thoughts on these? I myself is still not quite sure which one is the
best for our school to use. I guess the advantage of using the ESR
versions is addon compatibility (for users with less maintenanced
addons) and less frequent GUI changes?
I usually upload whatever is the recommended version from their site.
But in some environments I can see the benefit of using just the stable one.

Maybe we should make new bat-files for ESR versions of Thunderbird and
Firefox so they're an option for those who want to use it?
we can have both:

thunderbird10.bat
firefox10.bat
and still use thunderbird.bat and firefox.bat for whatever is the
recomended version.

What do you think?
