if you are using the version from the repository you only need those steps:

cvs up
cd linuxboot; make download; make tftpboot

Am I missing something or are you talking about info on
http://unattended.sourceforge.net/step-by-step.php etc. etc?

I just set this up on a Centtos 5.1 server and I agree. I've only had
time to get the basic install going and ran into some so far minor
problems with the install catching my drivers and unattended.txt files.
So If I'm missing additional info resources please let me know.

I build from CVS. In unattended/linuxboot I updated the Makefile to use
linux=linux-2.6.24.3.

When I ran make iso, it runs the make oldconfig for the kernel, and I
believe it asked there if I would like to enable the E1000E driver (the
trailing E is important - that indicates it's a PCI-e card and not PCI).
Alternatively, you could add the line CONFIG_E1000E=m to
unattended/linuxboot/misc/linux-config (right below CONFIG_E1000 is a good
spot) and run make iso/tftpboot.

You don't need the e1000 driver at all. I meant to say "No need to compile a
separate driver" in my last message.

You added the e1000e in the kernel config where did you find the
e1000e ?
In  e1000-7.6.15.5.tar.gz  ?
You do'nt compile the unattended distribution ?

I just used linux-2.6.24.3 and added the e1000e driver in the kernel config
(add CONFIG_E1000E=m to misc/linux-config) and it worked fine on my Optiplex
755's. No need to compile a separate kernel.

[Unattended] Compiling CVS unattended with nt5x-install patchesand driver e1000

2008-04-03 Thread Regis Gras

I tried to compile CVS with the new driver e1000 for Dell Optiplex 755

I tried to use: e1000-7.6.15.4.tar.gz and e1000-7.6.15.5.tar.gz

The compilation is OK, but the network connection does'nt work
The messages are:

*** Now that we have loaded the modules (maybe) let's try DHCP ...
*** Trying DHCP on eth0
udhcpc (v1.9.1) started
Sending Discover
:eth0: e1000_watchdog_task: NIC Link is up 100 Mbps Full Duplex Flow
Control: RX/TX
:eth0: e1000_watchdog_task:  10/100 speed: disabling TSO

and now, the computer freezes.
I am using:
linux-2.6.24.4   glibc-2.3.6   perl-5.8.8   samba-3.0.20
e1000-7.6.15.5.tar.gz

What can I do ?

[Unattended] Prepare script failing on cygwin (+fix)

2008-04-03 Thread Dave Mills
Seems to be an issue with escape chars not being processed as expected,
and newline's not being removed.

I have added "-ne" to the three echo commands below to force echo to
supress newline and evaluate escape chars.

There were still newlines in the $file variable so I changed s/\n// to
s/[\r\n]//g to strip out all carriage returns and newlines as there
shouldnt be either in $url or $path.

Now works for me.

url=`echo -ne "$needed" | cut -d\| -f3 | tr '~' ' ' | perl -pe
's/[\r\n]//g;s/^ *//;s/ *$//'`
file=`echo -ne "$needed" | cut -d\| -f4 | tr '~' ' '  | perl -pe
's/[\r\n]//g;s/^ *//;s/ *$//;s/([^\/]*\/*)$/lc($1)/eg'`
path=`echo -ne "$file" | perl -pe 's#(.*/).*#$1#'`

Hi Jen,

You will need to install KB888111 (High Definition Audio Driver Package)
first, then the realtek drivers. I put kb888111.exe in my cmndlines.txt
and put the Realtek drives in my drivers path and let Windows autodetect
the realtek drivers.

If you need KB888111.exe let me know.

my cmdlines.txt
---snip
[commands]

"kb888111.exe /quiet /norestart /overwiteoem"
"noexec.cmd"
snip

Thanks
