Listed below, and back by popular demand,
are Sites, Tips and Resources for the
Disposal and Recycling of unwanted items.
***
Trash and Recycling are now collected on the same day.
For UC-Blue it is Wednesday.
Trash is collected every week and Recycling every other week (including
THIS WEEK)
There are strict rules for Disposal, enforced with ticketing and fines.
The fines average about $25.00 per offense and can be cumulative
totalling $100 or more.
The regulations are available at the Streets Department Web-site
http://www.phila.gov/streets/
Some are listed below for easy reference.
Residential Property owners may put out 12 items of less than 40#s per
week.
This can be:
12 sealed plastic bags or
6 Trash Cans
(Large cans count as 2 bags) or
(Appliances, Sofas or Large Items may be substituted for cans
but advance arrangements should be made with Bulk Hauling.)
Most construction materiels may NOT be put at the curb.
Wood or Garden debris
(must be in bundles of less than 4' lengths and
be of reasonable weight and count as items.)
Corrugated boxes may NOT be used as containers.
Blue Recycling Boxes may not be used for trash.
There is no limit on properly used Recycling cans and boxes.
Glass, Cans and Mixed paper should be recycled.
Plastic and Corrugated may be delivered to
the Firehouse Market
sec 50th and Baltimore on
1st and 3rd Saturdays
9 AM to 12:30 PM.
Home Owners who place a large appliances (or piece of furniture) at the
curb on Trash Day, should call Bulk Hauling the day before pickup, to
make arrangements so that the Flat Bed which follows the Dump Trucks can
be directed to the property. If the trash appliance is a refrigerator,
I've been told doors must be removed and put out in a separate time or
place. This is to prevent suffocation of kids or pets.
To E-mail the streets department with requests for Bulk Hauling send
E-mail to:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
or click upon:

or call the direct number
215-686-5560.
ask for Trash / Bulk Hauling and give your Location as Address + West
Philly + Zip Code.
Note you can find STREETS (and most City Services) through the City
Switchboard 215-Mu6-1776.
To jog your memory, Mu stands for Municipal and 1776 represents
Philadelphia's importance in the creation of the U.S.A.
If an appliance still works, there are many organizations both
NON and
FOR profit that will take it.
