[UC] Alert: Another Car Breakin at 48th & Beaumont

2003-11-04 Thread Joe Clarke

Someone broke into my sister's car last
night.  They used a screw driver to open the trunk and stole a lot of
clothes that she had in there.  They also broke the read window and
searched the car for valuables.  I've reported this to the Police and to
UCD.  This is going to persist until this/these people are caught.
They had to have spent a lot of time going through my sister's car, which was
parked beneath the street lamp.  Did anyone see or hear anything?
There was a lot of stuff and it would not be easy just to make away with
it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: [UC] What kind of construction person do I need?

2003-11-04 Thread Charles H. Buchholtz
I'd recommend Lloyd Sterret, 215-727-3182. He rebuilt my porch, doing
the brickwork and pouring the concrete footing as well as all the
carpentry.

   Hi all,

A decorative column whose base starts at my enclosed porch roof and whose top
ends at the height of my second floor ceiling has separated from the corner of
the house by about a half inch. It is letting rainwater into my porch roof,
   creating a leak.

Who should I talk to about re-affixing the column to the house and caulking it?
I don't even know what -kind- of person I should call, much less who.

   Thanks for your help.

All the calls I have gotten are for Street.
Has anyone received recordings supporting Sam Katz?

I bet if you were a Republican, you would also get get calls.
Is this a basis of a voting decision.
There are issues out there to be considered
Thanks
Mark
P.S the calls are bogus..so I delete them:)

Here is my argument. If people have been so eager to get rid of
telemarketers, why would any advertising agency think that we would
appreciate phone campaign advertisements?
Just based on the annoyance level, I would probably vote against Street.
Fortunately for him, I can't vote.

[UC] Important Political Film Screening Sun. Nov. 9

2003-11-04 Thread Gina Renzi
Please come to this. Experience the viewpoint of one group of filmmakers
and the information they chose to spotlight regarding the Presidential
Election of 2000.

Info is as follows:

Sunday, 11/09 at 7pm.
At The Rotunda: 4014 Walnut St., Phila.

Screening of "Unprecedented: The 2000 Presidential Election." 50 minute
documentary.
Introduction by and discussion with Richard Ray Perez, Producer,
Director, Writer, Director of Photography. Perez has produced multi-media
presentations for the best selling book, Pigs at the Trough, by author
Arianna Huffington and public service announcements for the activist
organizations MoveOn.org and TrueMajority.org, and more.
The film is the riveting story about the battle for the Presidency in Florida
and the undermining of democracy in America.

>From the moment the polls opened, it was painfully clear that something
was wrong. While the media seized on the controversy surrounding the
poorly designed "Butterfly Ballot", much larger civil rights abuses were
overlooked.

Focusing on events leading up to election day and the attempt to count
legally cast votes in the days that followed, Unprecedented examines a
suspicious pattern of irregularities, injustices and voter purges—all in a
state governed by the winning candidate's brother.

One of the first indications that something was wrong came early on
election day. Thousands of African-Americans who had voted in previous
elections discovered that their names were missing from the voter rolls.
Investigators later uncovered irrefutable evidence that exposed an
elaborate strategy where thousands of Democratic voters were purged
from the rolls. These voters were disproportionately African-American.

The evidence shows that Governor Jeb Bush, Secretary of State,
Katherine Harris, and other Republican state officials ordered the
manipulation of a list of former felons to include thousands of legitimate
voters who had no criminal history. In Florida, ex-felony offenders lose
their right to vote for life. But the manipulation of this list denied thousands
of legitimate voters their franchise. In an election that was determined by
537 votes, these purged voters would have reversed the outcome…

Unprecedented: The 2000 Presidential Election is a cautionary tale,
warning us that we must insists our elections be conducted in a manner
above reproach, that all legitimate voters may exercise their franchise, and
all legal votes must be counted. Anything less undermines our faith in
democracy.
Film synopsis at http://www.unprecedented.org

Rock the Vote will be on hand to register people to vote and answer
questions about voting. Also, Kevin Zeese will be speaking briefly. Kevin
is a director of the Campaign for Fresh Air and Clean Politics which is
working on the Campaign for Verifiable Voting in Maryland -- challenging
the use of unverifiable, unauditable electronic voting machines.

for the venue and film makers.
