[UC] Re: Cable service

2008-03-22 Thread Cindy Miller
I use Earthlink DSL and I am happy with it. It took me 20 minutes to
install (all by myself), and the customer service--well at least
those Indian people are super nice! On a live chat, I signed off with
"Have a good day" and Sathia came back with "Have a wonderful life!"

I have Plan # 3--no issues or problems.

Earthlink, to me, looks to be an absolute mess - the whole thing
with getting WiFi to the city, now pulling out, horrible customer

If it is cable TV you are referring to, then unfortunately the only
other options are Direct TV and Dish Network. Both are satellite
providers and offer the same versions of Comcast's amenities. The
downsides are frequent outage during bad weather and cheesy/
primitive customer service (and that's in comparison to Comcast's
customer service) among other minor issues. If you love to watch
your Philly sports teams NOT win the big one then don't get these
providers as they do not carry Comcast (the channel) which provides
great coverage of average teams with cheap ownership (but that's
another post).

If it is a cable/T1,2 or 3 internet connection you refer to, the
only other worthy provider (that Im aware of) is Verizon. Verizon
has great service (especially Fios - through my personal
experiences) but is expensive. Of course there is always Earthlink
and other providers but I don't know much about these guys.

I think the law should require us all to use carrier pigeons
instead. It's about saving the Earth. Modern urban technology
generates too many pigeons, just as it generates too much CO2.
Messages we send by pigeon instead of internet will reduce our CO2
debt, since the pigeons are already there and require no further
carbon combustion.

I know there has been some discussion on the list about bogus tickets for
litter being received months after the supposed offense. How have people
handled them? I've got a hearing early in April and I'm wondering how to handle
it. Any help or advice is appreciated.

[UC] Fw: [Ucneighbors] two egg hunts

2008-03-22 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Tony was kind enough to remind us of two big, fun neighborhood events for
families.
His post reminded me to remind neighbors that there will be treat filled
plastic eggs in the hedge row at our home, again this year. We put out about
200 items, before we head out to Mass, and hope they are gone before Monday.
Because experience tells us that within a day, the squirrels have learned how
to open the eggs, and we don't need the mess.
Our home is at 4611 Springfield and the treats should be outside, by 9 AM.
We don't have the time or energy to create an organized "hunt" with all the
benefits that come from shared face time and common goals, but we do hope to
carry forward some random acts of kindness.
Folks, please make time to enjoy the public events and our smaller, household
offering.
Our hope is that neighbors who pass by will take a treat, and maybe pause long
enough to see a child (or someone young at heart, or someone who may not have
any other holiday treat) delight in a silly tradition.
I love seeing Holiday decorations, and knowing that many of our neighbors are
contributing to a common joy.

The details from Tony West's announcement are repeated below.
"Egg hunts abound in the neighborhood today."

Friends of Malcolm X Park, 51st & Osage, egg hunt and party, from 12 m. to 5
p.m. today.
Friends of Walnut West Library, field behind the library, at 40th near Walnut
St. at 12:30 p.m.
Free candy
