International Guitar Night

One of the most important showcases for contemporary guitar - San Francisco
Chronicle

Featuring:
Pino Forastiere (Italy)
Mike Dawes (England)
Quique Sinesi (Argentina)
Brian Gore (California)

At Crossroads Music, 801 South 48th Street (in Calvary Church)

Tickets ($10-30) and more information at
www.crossroadsconcerts.org

International Guitar Night, North America’s premier mobile guitar festival, has
featured the best performing guitar composers from around the world since 1995.
Each tour, IGN founder Brian Gore invites a new cast of guitar luminaries to
join him for special evenings of solos, duets and quartets that highlight the
virtuosity and diversity within the world of acoustic guitar. Since the
beginning, audiences have cherished the friendly informal ambiance of the
performances. Participants have relished the chance IGN affords to express
reverence for one another, and to collaborate rather than compete with one
another.

This year's tour includes the classically-trained Italian experimentalist Pino
Forastire, Quique Sinesi, whose original compositions are rooted in the tango
and folkloric music of his native Argentina, the brilliant young British
fingerstyle guitarist Mike Dawes, and the program's organizer, California
guitar poet Brian Gore.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

We want to wish you a happy and healthy 2014! Welcome to the January edition of
the University City Crime Update, a monthly UCD email to keep you informed
about crime patterns and baseline information in University City. Each month we
chart serious crime activity in University City as well as provide a 13-month
context for that activity.

In December 2013, 38 serious crimes were committed within the University City
District boundaries. (See map below.) We're pleased to report that seven
related arrests have already been made.

Over the past two weeks, University City has experienced a rash of commercial
burglaries. These businesses had their windows smashed and money removed from
their registers. Most appear to have taken place between 3:00am - 5:30am.

Businesses are encouraged to not leave money overnight in the register - even
leaving the empty cash drawer open, or posting a sign stating that no cash is
left after hours. For businesses interested in installing security cameras,
Philadelphia's Commerce Department has a program called SafeCam that will
reimburse 50% of the cost of external cameras and related systems. For more
information on the SafeCam program click here.

UCD and the Philadelphia Police Department in addition to the Penn and Drexel
police departments and other institutional public safety divisions respond with
a strategic and coordinated effort to address these and other crimes in the
neighborhood. But we ask you to use extra caution and remain vigilant.

As always:

Please be aware of your surroundings at all times. Remember that anyone in
University City in need of a Walking Escort - someone to accompany them to
transportation, a meeting, home or class - can call 215-898-9255 or
215-387-3942 between 10am-3am and a UCD Ambassador will be dispatched.

Do you have a community meeting coming up? Are you a block captain? UCD has
handy postcards advertising our free public safety services. Contact
m...@universitycity.org to obtain them.
Follow the Twitter feeds of both The Philadelphia Police Department
(@PhillyPolice) and West Philadelphia Detective Joseph Murray (@PPDJoeMurray)
for up to date information.

We hope you find this information useful, and we welcome your feedback and
questions. Most importantly, as this email is sent to a targeted list of block
captains and civic association representatives, please forward liberally to
your neighbors and colleagues in University City. When forwarding, click the
link to forward email (at the very bottom of this email) so that the image is
shared as well. And, as always, we invite you to reach out to us with your
concerns and feedback. Don't hesitate to contact Steve Walsh at 215-243-0555
