[UC] Re: [UCNeighbors] community compost bin
I saw this post on GRID last week and thought it would be fantastic to have something like this in West Philly. http://www.gridphilly.com/griddle/2011/4/19/the-compost-coop-affordable-composting-comes-to-19125.html --Katia On Wed, Apr 27, 2011 at 9:36 AM, Heather DeGrands heat...@degrands.comwrote: Bennett Compost is a great service that gives you a 5 gallon bucket (airtight) that you put out weekly and they pick it up. The cost has gone up a bit since I started using it, but it is somewhere between $12-15 per month, depending on if you pay up front for the year or monthly. It has significantly reduced my trash (and the animals who like to tear open the bags to get to the food). I think they distribute the compost throughout the city in gardens, etc. Check into it at bennettcompost.comhttp://www.bennettcompost.com/ http://www.bennettcompost.com/Heather DeGrands On Apr 27, 2011, at 9:07 AM, Michael Froehlich wrote: Hi neighbors-- I have a small backyard on 48th Street with a large (18 cubic feet) compost bin http://westphillytools.org/node/5364. Last year, a few friends asked me whether they could use my compost bin and I said sure. Soon, word spread and within a month, there were 20-30 families using the compost bin. There was a steady stream of folks bringing their compost to my backyard. This was great. But it also overwhelmed my bin and, after a time, I had to put a stop to it. Recently, several people have started asking me whether they can use my bin again. It occurs to me that there is an incredible need for community composting. And, until we get curbside composting like San Francisco, this seems like something we might have to can take on ourselves. So my question: (1) are there any community composting sites in our neighborhood that I can refer folks to? (2) if not, does anyone own or have access to a space in the neighborhood big enough that we might build a bin? If someone offers the space, I'll take care of constructing the bin laying out the policies rules, etc. thanks, Michael. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the UCNeighbors group. [UC] Canadian passport photos
Hi -- as the Canadian passport photo requirements are different from the US, I am having trouble finding someplace to have my photo taken. Does anyone know of a professional photographer who can take my photo and sign or stamp it? Thanks, Katia

definitely 43/Chester AND 44/Chester (the only two I use) --Katia From: Stephen Fisher Sent: Tuesday, November 17, 2009 3:11 PM To: Jeannette Bennicelli Cc: University City List ; pfsni listserv Subject: Re: [PFSNI] mailboxes The postoffice did a study of the 3 mailboxes they recently removed. Apparently there wasn't enough volume so they were removed. Seems odd that they would remove all 3 at once but they didn't ask for me Apparently if enough residents complain they will put one back. You can use their website to request they restore a mailbox: http://faq.usps.com/eCustomer/iq/usps/request.do?create=kb:USPSFAQforward=inquiryType Initially they removed 45/Baltimore, 43/Chester, and another one. My understanding was that the mailbox at 40th and Baltimore wasn't removed. However if it's now gone then I guess they are still at it.
