[UC] found tricycle on 4700 block of hazel

2007-06-17 Thread Michael Clapper

Friends and Neighbors:

This morning while taking my children to the park, I found a tricycle
under a tree on the 4700 block of Hazel, on the north side, close to
48th street.

It strikes me that it was probably taken out of someone's side yard or
off of a porch; it's too nice a bike to have been abandoned in this
fashion.

If it belongs to your family, please send me an email off-list. We will
happily deliver it to the proper owner.

peace

Who knew?

Last time I was in St. Louis, I was appalled by the number of stores that had huge signs stating
that you could not bring a concealed weapon inside.

I guess I didn’t realize it was that
easy or legal in Philly.  Can
individual stores/movie theatres/offices prohibit folks from carrying guns?

See http://www.ppdonline.org/hq_gunpermit.php
for everything you need to know about pulling a CW permit here in Philadelphia.  Hardest part might be
finding a passport picture.

Sigh.

"The complainant reported that the argument
escalated to the point at which the three males began to punch and kick him,
prompting him to flee the theater.

According to police, the three other men followed the
complainant outside and began to shoot at him. The complainant shot three to
four bullets in response before the scene broke up.

Because the complainant had a permit for his
nine-millimeter Beretta semi-automatic and reportedly only fired when his life
was endangered, he does not currently face charges."

[UC] Sod?

2005-04-11 Thread Michael Clapper
Title: Re: [UC] HVAC recommendations?

Any recommendations for
someone looking to purchase about 120 sq. feet of sod?

None of the big box home rip-off places
carry it and apart from driving deep into South Jersey, I’m
not sure where else to look.

Thoughts, suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

RE: [UC] PM-302.3 Weeds

2005-04-12 Thread Michael Clapper
I too got one of these tickets, as did several of my neighbors. Not the
neighbor whose front yard is an experiment in ecosystem reversion, i.e.,
see what happens when you do nothing for years.

The same timing nonsense occurred (written in August, filed in January.)

After much back and forth, I finally got a supervisor at the Finance
Dept who told me that if I appealed, I would win. There's no reasoning
with any of the folks who answer the phone, although one did inform me
that the only way to avoid a hearing was if I knew someone, and in that
case, he didn't want to know about it. Charming.

So, me and the baby are off to court next week, his first experience
with the law. I hope they go easy on us, maybe give us a donut and urge
us to stick closer to church related activities.

I got slapped with this, some decorative grass in the front lawn
apparently
was not liked by a neighbor (who still hasn't come clean to let me know
it
was them who contacted the police to complain, without ever complaining
to me
first). *I* got the ticket FOUR MONTHS after it was written up. The
timestamp on the envelope proves it. No deal, they wanted their money.
I
wasn't about to fight all the way to a judge, I'd wasted enough time
trying
to reason with the Finance department (a.k.a. Collection Agency).
