Re: [UC] Proposed Use-4508-4538 Chestnut

2003-03-30 Thread Cielkay
Thank you, Anthony, for putting some civility and common sense into the discussion.

Perhaps we should investigate the agency which would be opening the proposed shelter.
Is it a responsible non-profit like Lutheran Settlement House with a history of success? Or one chosen as the lowest bidder in a city contract?

A 200-bed facility sounds like it is a large facility that could have an impact on the immediate neighborhood, a part of our neighborhood which has more than its share of drugs and blight. This immediate neighborhood is pretty fragile. I haven't seen any latte shops in this part of the neighborhood.
Maybe those  who are interested in working with the homeless shelter should start now. There are plenty of people--kids, teens and adults, in this part of  University City who would benefit from your efforts right now.

The band also plays every Thursday at the bar above Abyssina on 45th and
Locust.
The dobro player, Larry Maltz, who is also my husband, just opened a used
book store, The Last Word Bookshop at 3925 Walnut Street, 215-386-7750. Check
it out,
