Subject: Free kids' ukulele lessons

Hey 4600 neighbors,

I've been thinking for awhile now about trying to get a group of neighborhood
kids together, and teaching them to play the ukulele. It's a very fun and
relatively easy instrument, and a great way to expose children to the joy of
making music.

I am ready to commit to this idea now, so if any of you have or know of kids
aged 8-15 (or thereabouts) who might be interested in learning to play ukulele,
please let me know. I figured I'd start with a series of 8 group classes, once
a
week, and after 8 weeks we'll see how we're doing and decide where to go next.
I
will not charge anything for this first sequence of classes. I probably
wouldn't
charge anything for subsequent series either, but I can't make any promises
there -- I could decide not to go forward, or to bring in another teacher.

Each child would need a ukulele. Decent ukes can be bought for $40-80. I would
ask parents who are interested to please let me know before you purchase
anything so I can give you some advice. The difference between a usable
instrument and a piece of junk is not always obvious.

I think 6-8 students would be a good number for the first class. I would teach
at my house on the weekends.

Here's some inspiration:

Let me know if you're interested. I will spread this offer out in a wider
radius, but id like to keep a West Philly focus if possible.

Thanks,
John
