My car was broken into in January. It happened on 46th and Cedar right in
front of my house on a Saturday night at about 3 a.m. in the morning. My alarm
went off and I came running outside, to my surprise there was nobody in sight.
The glass was shattered on my front passenger window but it was still intact.
It appeared that they pried the window frame with a metal (screwdriver like)
object and broke the glass diligently. They do it carefully because, sometimes
they can get away with breaking the window without the alarm sounding. I had to
move my car because I was worried about them coming back to get inside the car.
I made a mistake by leaving my stereo face plate on the stereo. It detaches for
security purposes, and I usually remove it at night. The one time I forgot to
remove it and they got me.I believe the stereo gave them an incentive to
unlawfully attempt to enter my vehicle.
Anyway I called the police and filed a report with Officer Pleasant. He was
a really down to earth Police. He said he was going to patrol the area looking
for suspicious opportunists.. lol This seems to be an epidemic in the
University City area especially in the higher 40 something streets. After
filling the report, I moved it to a friends house closer to the University. The
next day I took it to Jack's auto glass on 63rd and Passyunk, and for $130.00
they replaced it in about 45 minutes.
Long story short, be careful where you park, try to avoid quiet remote
blocks, don't leave anything visible in your car, get a good alarm system:
preferably a newer one with a 2-way pager key chain to notify you when your
alarm goes off, and always put THE CLUB on your steering wheel. These four
things won't guarantee that your car won't get broken in to but they are a
powerful deterrent. Sometimes I wish there was more of a neighborhood vibe.
Where your neighbors and residents considerately look out for each other. As
the neighborhood becomes more Penn affiliated, the fabric of the working class
community some how feels weakened.
Don't get me wrong Penn, has done a lot of wonderful things for the community
but some of there actions have unforeseen reaction on the community. I guess
that we have to sort of adapt to their byproduct of progression.

is nothing visible in the car.
This happened in the 900 block of south 48th street. I did report it to the
police.
