If anyone around here enjoys high school sports, you might want to check out the West Catholic Basketball Tournament tonight (Thursday, December 30). The championship game will begin at 6:30 PM between host West Catholic and Bishop McDevitt. The third place game will begin at 5PM between Wyncote Academy and Mercy Vocational. Enter through the parking lot off of 46th Street between Chestnut and Ludlow and enter through the back door of the school. It's cheap at $5 per person.
I went to the semi-final games yesterday, motivated by the chance to see a team from the finest high school in the state, Bishop McDevitt (my alma mater), play in my backyard. It was good to see some athletes motivated by things other than money. Hopefully, when McDevitt leaves West Philly to go home they will take the championship trophy with them.
