Philadelphia to Begin Rewarding Residents for Recycling

The City of Philadelphia has launched a program designed to boost the
rate of recycled trash in the city.
Flanked by other city officials, mayor Michael Nutter kicked off the
program on Thursday at 28th and Diamond Streets in Strawberry Mansion,
the first section of the city that will be able to participate.
Basically, you get paid for your recycling. The more you recycle, the
more reward points you get for coupons redeemable at restaurants,
local and national stores, and even to make donations to nonprofit
organizations.
Ron Gonen is founder and CEO of Recycle Bank, which will run the
program for the city:
"You want to make sure you recycle and you make sure that you
encourage your neighbors to recycle. You're going to be rewarded for
participating each week, and then you're also going to be rewarded for
the amount that your neighborhood and community recycle."
Block captain Robert Eding says it's a great idea:
"It will help everybody know that we're going to have to keep our
blocks clean in order to keep the city clean, because it starts by one
block at a time."
