Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] SqueezePlay for Linux ?

2009-12-10 Thread grahams

Removing pulseaudio allows Squeezeplay to work and it works very well.

I found removing pulse on 9.10 isn't that easy, but the following helps
and now I have a pulse free usable 9.10

http://ubuntu-ky.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8284273

To enable Gnome Volume Control Applet on Ubuntu 9.10 after the removal
of PulseAudio.

To enable Gnome Volume Control Applet, you can install certain magic
packages from "audiohacks PPA" repository:
https://launchpad.net/~dtl131/+archive/ppa

The "audiohacks PPA" repository contains these Debian packages for
Ubuntu 9.10:

1. libcanberra
2. gnome-applets
3. gnome-media
4. gnome-settings-daemon

These packages were built without PulseAudio, they provide Gnome Volume
Control (gstreamer mixer), Gnome Volume Control Applet (gstreamer mixer
applet), system sounds (libcanberra built with the gstreamer backend),
etc.

How to enable "audiohacks PPA" repository.

Step 1: Make a copy of /etc/apt/sources.list

cp /etc/apt/sources.list ~/

Step 2: To enable the "audiohacks PPA" repository, execute these three
commands:

sudo sh -c "echo 'deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/dtl131/ppa/ubuntu karmic
main' >> /etc/apt/sources.list"

sudo sh -c "echo 'deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/dtl131/ppa/ubuntu
karmic main' >> /etc/apt/sources.list"

sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com
4D140B0620B0474CDA69B8A0AD70EA6AF76FFEBE

When the "audiohacks PPA" repository is enabled, you can simply upgrade
your applications (not the distro), and the magic packages will be
installed automatically.

The much desired miracles are produced by these simple commands:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade

sudo reboot

***
After the reboot of the system
***

1. Right click on the Gnome Panel and add "Volume Control" applet to
the panel

2. Remove these evil files:

~/.pulse-cookie
~/.pulse

These evil files are hidden files in your home folder. You can remove
them manually.

One more thing: what CPU, how much memory? Did you install with a swap file?
Static IP configuration or DHCP?

Just tried the latest V7.4.2 R29572 and it seems to be working ok now,
at least with 10 Dec version of Debian's testing.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Failing starting Slimserver (FreeNas0.7/SlimNAS2.0.1/SqueezeServer7.4.1)

2009-12-10 Thread runestrandli

Cant find any mysql log file there either.

The .../slimnas/var/sqeezebox/Cache/ floder looks like this:

/DownloadedPlugins/
/InstalledPlugins/
/MySQL/
my.cnf
plugin-data.yaml
stringcahe.i386-freebsd.bin

All of the 3 folders are empty.

The SlimNAS / Squeeze Server installs MySQL?
So there is no need for installing or configuring anything else than
the FreeNAS and then follow the steps on your homepage?

Sorry for the stupid questions, I'm pretty new to this..

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Failing starting Slimserver (FreeNas0.7/SlimNAS2.0.1/SqueezeServer7.4.1)

2009-12-10 Thread runestrandli

thanks Michael,

There is only 2 files in the folder where the server.log is
(.../slimnas/var/sqeezebox/Logs/): perfmon.log (which is empty) and the
server.log that contains the content mentioned above.

Yes the /tmp/ file on the system/OS disk is writable.
(However I'm not able to mount the OS disk so I can see it from another
computer, but I belive thats another issue?)

Is /tmp/ writable? Anything in the mysql log file (in the same log folder or in
cache)?
