For what it's worth, I have just installed vortexbox on an old dell desktop and it worked out of the box didn't need any Linux skills. Really? They are no longer maintaining the Linux repositories? Umm, what's up with that? Lets hope they don't continue down that road. [SlimDevices: Unix] rsync advice
I recently discovered rsync as I needed a more automated backup solution . I'm in the midst of doing my first real backup so I've found settings/options that I liked . However for my incremental backups in the future . What are god options to use ? Provided that . 1. I do (small) tag updates without changing the modified time of the file . 2. Every modified file must be found and backupped -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. I recently discovered rsync as I needed a more automated backup solution Check out rsnapshot: it's a wrapper around rsync which takes care of the several generations of changes you want to maintain. -- Michael ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] rsync advice
You could also consider a very large wrapper around rsync such as backuppc (look for it on sourceforge.net). I've been using it for a long time, IMHO this is a quality software package with tons of useful options and reliable operation. -- epoch1970 Daily dose delivered by: 3 SB Classic, 1 SB Boom iPeng (iPhone + iPad) Squeezebox Server 7.6 (Debian 5.0) with plugins: MusicIP Server Power Control by Gordon Harris WeatherTime by Martin Rehfeld IRBlaster by Gwendesign (Felix) Find cover art by bpa BBC iPlayer, SwitchPlayer by Triode PowerSave by Jason Holtzapple Song Info, Song Lyrics by Erland Isaksson SaverSwitcher, ContextMenu by Peter Watkins Just Covers by Tom Kalmijn. epoch1970's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16711 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91679 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
