I may be l wrong but there isn't a hf version - there is a later 7.8
nightly tweaked for the Raspi, I believe. Otherwise, why not just use
the deb package - I installed this ages ago on a cheap Chinese arm
tablet running ubuntu 9.04. It worked. Your mileage may vary!

[SlimDevices: Unix] CubieNOS

2013-11-19 Thread MarlonBrando

Hi,
Before jumping into the Wandboard incarnation of the Community Squeeze,
I was looking at the alternatives like the Cubieboard when I found this
announcement:

http://cubieboard.org/2013/10/18/g2-labs-has-released-a-dac-module-for-cubieboard/

any thoughts (beyond the price of the device) ?

BTW, I am not sure this is the right place for this kind of post. If
not, please tell me more.

I can't avoid the price factor - phew!

Also, looks like a marvellous dust trap.

I've got a Cubie, but I wouldn't be tempted by this.

Indeed. Alternatives exist, for example this one which is AFIK the DAC
found on the transporter:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-DAC-24BIT-192KHZ-CS8416-AK4396-NE5532P-BOARD-KIT-FOR-DIY-/221179391254

for less than a tenth of the price.

I see from your signature that you have a Raspberry Pi and a Cubieboard,
do you run LMS on any ? Are they strong enough ?

Considering it seems to be based on the NOS cargo cult minimalism,
maybe the audiophile thread is the best place?

No problem using either the Pi or the Cubie A10 - but I only have a
small library of about 1200 tracks.

The Cubie is marginally faster in menus and scanning.

Use LMS 7.8

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Squeezelite - a small headless squeezeplay emulator for linux (alsa only)

Hi Triode - thanks for AMAZING speed :)
It does work almost well but only if i set pause to be very long (more
then 0.5 seconds). Could it be that ALSA error is the culprit (ALSA
 snd_pcm_hw_start:588 SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_START failed (-32)) ?
Please find attached portion of the log of squeezelite - maybe you can
figure out if all is working well (it seems to me that it is). Weird
part is that if i insert the file that's only 5ms long (zeroes) all
works well, yet with 6 times more 0's via modified squeezelite it does
 not ... ?

Sorry don't see the reason for the difference - the changed code should
only output silence for the period specified which is longer than your
dummy file. Can you capture the logs for the case when you add the
dummy file - what's the time between changing the output sample rate and
the real track starting?

Are there others seeing this issue - does anyone feel this is something
which should be in the main release?

Thanks for the info.

2 SB Classic. Hopefully a Community Squeeze soon.

hi ,

In both cases i started playing 192khz file, fast forward towards the
end, then either play 1ms empty file (or let squeezelite version with
pause inserts do it) and then play the 44.1khz file.

please find attached log files of bother scenario
1st one - regular squeezelite with inserted file in between Norah Jones
(192khz) and Macy Gray (44.1khz) which has 1 millisecond of silence.
2nd one - modified squeezelite that inserts 40 msecs of silence/pause.

I starred at the log files and couldn't figure out why it does not do
what is expect (at least not well). My wild guess it probably has to do
with opening/closing alsa device rather then what is being sent ?

Thank you in advance for making time to look at it !!!

Gaha
