My HiFiBerry DAC arrived today and I waisted no time in connecting it up. Issue is that I get no audio output. What is the recommended way of setting it up. I tried scanning for USB devices but it does not show. What parameters should I pass or will it just automagically be found on the Pi ? Using v1.10 which worked fine under analog out via headphone socket before I mounted the DAC board. OK, just to be certain, you aren't trying to use the Pi with both the wireless *and* fixed network connections in place at the same time, are you? You should only use one or the other, not both. Use "sudo powerdown" to shutdown the Pi, disconnect the fixed network connection from the Pi, then restart it, wait for the blue light to start flashing away on the WiFi adaptor and then run your checks. If the blue light goes out on the adaptor then it looks like the network connection isn't staying up. Finally, you can check whether wireless devices can communicate with each other via the router using the ping command eg, by pinging your mobile from your Mac. Not sure how you ping on a Mac, but I'm sure a search will turn up something. Or you could connect your Mac to the physical network and see if everything works then. I can't tell what the security setting might be on your router - they tend to use different terms for the same thing. I'm off to get some shut-eye now so I'll leave you to it. I read up about wifi compatibility briefly before ordering so got the same adaptor: Edimax EW-7811UN. The pi definitely has a wireless IP address through looking at the router; I can see both the wired and wireless ip's. So you can definitely see that the Pi is connected to the router and has got an IP address by looking at the router? If yes, normally at this point I would suggest connecting a screen and keyboard directly to the Pi so that you can test connectivity outbound onto the network. Eg, you can ping other devices. But before we consider that, one other question: is the server and/or the PC/Mac you're using to access the Pi also on the wireless network? The reason I ask is that sometimes routers have a security setting which prevents two devices connected by WiFi from seeing each other. They can only see the fixed network. This is because the Pi's WiFi adaptor has a different MAC address to the physical connector so your DHCP server will think it's a different device. You can find out the new IP address by resetting and saving your wireless setup using menu option 8, and then look on-screen as it connects and gets an IP address for wireless. See then if you can connect to the new IP address. If you can then my next question would be: what is the IP address of the Pi and what is the address of your server? The reason for asking is that they may be on different subnets which is what I've been doing. If they are, you have to specify the IP address of the server and, as you've probably read above, there's a bug in setting the IP address. But take one thing at a time. Try and get a connection via WiFi to your Pi. Hi everyone, I'm new to Pi, having purchased one just for picoreplayer! but I'm having a problem with the wifi... I downloaded v1.10, installed it to a SD, installed Logitech Server and had the Pi working perfectly with ethernet connection. I changed the output to 3.5mm jack and changed the player name. No problems. Then I tried to set the wifi up. I used the 'picoreplayer' menu option '8' and it seemed to go well. However, once I unplug the ethernet I can't connect to the Pi via terminal on the imac and logitech server can't see the player any more. :( If I plug the ethernet back in, and go back through to the '8 setup wifi', it says I'm already connected! Another thing I noticed, is that if I disconnect power, when I reconnect the wifi has been forgotten. Well I have been working on some REALLY good sounding DSD DAC designs. These things usually work by putting the two channels on two pins of the I2S interface (usually SDATA and LRCLK). If the software guys can do this I could add a separate board that plugs in either to the wandboard IO connectors or the special connector on the CSP. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
Hi guys I've been playing with piCorePlayer 1.10 for the first time and it is very nice! I do have a couple of questions about the setting-up of parameters, the first to permit access to a hidden wireless network, the second about nominating a Squeezebox server. 1). ACCESS TO A HIDDEN WIRELESS NETWORK To allow piCorePlayer to access a hidden wireless network I believe I need to be able to set an additional parameter in the wpa_supplicant.conf file: scan_ssid=1 (this from http://databoyz.wordpress.com/tag/how-to-setup-network-and-wpa_supplicant-conf-file-on-raspberry-pi/) So I need to set up a file like this: Code: network={ ssid="SSID_Name" scan_ssid=1 #psk="password" psk=abcde... } I can't see how to do this in a way that the file is saved across a reboot and there isn't any option to set this parameter using the picoreplayer setup command. Any suggestions on how to make such a change stick? 2). NOMINATING A SQUEEZEBOX SERVER To connect to a Squeezebox server on a different subnet I need to nominate the server explicitly. However, if I set a server IP using the picoreplayer setup command (and save the settings) the server name doesn't appear in the command shown by ps: /MNT/MMCBLK0P2/TCE/SQUEEZELITE-ARMV6HF -O SYSDEFAULT:CARD=ALSA -N PICOREHIFIBERRY -A 200 4 and SqueezeLite can't connect to the server. This also occurs if I issue the command with the server address at the end of the line without the -s option switch. But if I issue the command manually using -s before the server IP address, SqueezeLite *does* appear in the command in ps and the player *is* able to access the server across two subnets: /MNT/MMCBLK0P2/TCE/SQUEEZELITE-ARMV6HF -Z -O SYSDEFAULT:CARD=ALSA -N PICOREHIFIBERRY -A 200 4 -S 192.168.1.201 This suggests that piCorePlayer isn't using the -s switch in front of the server name and so it isn't being picked up by SqueezeLite. If I'm right, would it be possible to fix this please? If an adapter is in power save, it doesn't respond to any traffic. Does LMS show that track time is elapsing on the player? Probably the only way to really see what is going on is to turn on squeezelite debugging on and save the logs to a local hard disk (or big sd card partition). You also might want to listen on the LMS CLi to see what the server is sending to the player. paul-'s Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58858 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97046 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

I've managed to test F20 with the stock Fedora kernel and prerelease 3.13 together with my mytek DAC and UAC2 compatible DAC. Here are my findings: Stock Fedora (3.12.6-300). - UAC2 compatible DAC, everything works OK. Including highres and DSD DoP output - Mytek with my Mytek driver (packaged by Clive), Everything works OK, including highres and DSD DoP output(*) (*) For DoP output to work properly (without interruptions) a had to remove the ALSA buffer parameters I use for my Marantz DAC DoP output Prerelease (3.13.0-0.rc8.git1.2.1.cs) - UAC2 compatible DAC, everything works OK. Including highres and DSD DoP output - Mytek with mytekusb2 driver, hard lockup when trying to play (**) (**) Not sure if the lockup is caused by kernel 3.13rc8 in general or only applicable for ARM. Needs more investigation F20 on Wandboard with squeezelite keeps playing happily while a 'yum update' job is running! This was not possible with the F19 with 3.0.35 kernel. lintweaker's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=47485 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99395 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

@piotrus The alsa settings are parameters for Squeezelite. You can set them in the PiCorePlayer or Squeezelite options. If you habe no clicks and pops or distorted sound then you probably don't need to set it. I had to use it on Squeezeplug 6 for HDMI and also on older PiCorePlayer versions. I'm currently experimenting with the latest PiCorePlayer and hifiberry that might not need this setting... The quality is impressive. I was using HDMI before which already sounds great, but with the HiFiBerry there is even more clarityin the music and more dynamic range. I did not try 192k files yet, but uncompressed Flac music (Wimp HiFi) sounds really good. I'm not 100% sure about the alsa settings yet, currently I'm running the usual - a 80:4 and it seems to be working.
