Hi MartinS0815,

I assume you did a search on the web and found the answer.

Unfortunately, the easiest thing to do is get one that is supported by
the Raspberry Pi.

Greg

Hi,

i did the search but did not find any solution.
Under https://sites.google.com/site/picoreplayer/wifi-dongles the Edimax
EW-7711UAn is listed as Working, so there shall be a chance?

Well all I got left Boss is my tip of the week

None of these worked, however another of Ronnies suggestions did:

apt-get update then apt-get upgrade then a hard reboot (pulling the
power plug from the pi) fixed it. My usb-dac is now listed and
 selectable in the squeezelite setup.

 cheers

You might try the hard reset first (is the dongle light flashing?) I
have used an Edimax (not this one) and sometimes a hard reset has got it
going, it does take a while to fire up.

Can you test the dongle in another computer to see if it is OK.

Apparently there is a driver for Linux

I am afraid I bought the wrong Edimax stick but maybe i have a chance.
 Dmesg is reporting:

Code:

[3.049608] usb 1-1.2: New USB device found, idVendor=7392,
idProduct=7710
   [3.049655] usb 1-1.2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2,

I'm pretty sure the EW7711UAn v2 uses a Mediatek MT7601U chipset, not
the Realtek RTL8188CUS. If Steen/Greg update the kernel to latest
rpi-4.1.y and also add the vendor firmware file to their distribution,
next time they update pico.. it should be possible to support
it.. 'Enable Mediatek mt7601u wifi driver in 4.2 tree'

Sorry MartinS0815,

It looks like Edimax has changed the specification of their wifi dongle.
From the wifi list it looks like the old one worked and the new one
doesn't.

It looks like JackOfAll has opened a request Enable Mediatek mt7601u
wifi driver in 4.2 tree to the Raspberry Pi Linux git. That's the first
step, then the piCore guys need to add the firmware to the appropriate
extension or make a new one.

The next version of piCorePlayer will probably not be using the 4.2
tree. The piCorePlayer in testing uses linux 4.1.4-piCore.

I would like to thank JackOfAll, without his in-depth understand of
these issues and raising change requests like this, the Raspberry Pi,
piCore and therefore piCorePlayer would further behind.

regards
Greg

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] How to: Installing LMS 7.9 nightly in a FreeBSD jail on FreeNAS 9.3

While I have no clue about FreeBSD, I'm not convinced this is a good
idea:

It seems you are overwriting the system perl, which could result in a
number of problems (both in operation and when the system perl is
upgraded)
You could have a look at the howto mentioned in my signature for a
different approach (just don't build your own perl, use the one in
/usr/local)
