Slightly off topic but a typical NAS file structure needed for Samba is
Directories at 0777 and files at 0666. The problem with running a chmod
-R is that everything will end up at 0777. I have never been able to
find a script that properly differentiates between Directories & Files.

If you end up with all your Files at 0777 there is way to fix it. It is
long winded but works.

You have to create a new folder on your NAS in Windows (music2) Then map
that new empty folder to say W:
Using WinSCP connect to the NAS music folder and in the left window
connect to W:
Copy all your files from right to left.
Because left (W:) is Windows it will take the standard Samba permissions
0777/0666 or whatever your smb.conf has it set as.
When you have done you have two copies of the music on your NAS. One
with wrong permission one with correct.
Again using WinSCP or a Putty session delete the wrong un's. "rm -fR
music &" in Putty ("&" backgrounds the process).
Rename the new folder (music2) to that of the old folder (music) and do
a full clear & rescan in LMS.

Obviously you need the NAS to have capacity for 2 copies of your music
for a short period.

I have everything music at 777 :) i have backupps ! and i sometimes
adjust the tags over the network .

I backup everything more secure .

A separate music directory with everything at 777 is not a disaster or
do you think ?

Jeff,

fyi, I saw you have a hifiberry dac+ "pro"... did you know the better
clocks are not enabled with the current piCorePlayer?

current rasppian linux has the new drivers, but not in piCore yet--

Yeah I asked HifiBerry about this before I bought it. I've tried it with
the new drivers under raspbian and could detect no sound quality
differences.

I only use it in a dev system at the moment and only wanted it for the
native 192khz sample rate.
