2017-04-14 Thread huxmut

Hi M H, yes i've seen those extenders. Also the way some of the cases
mount the Pi and Hats away from the LCD display etc look good (but
expensive)
I thought (for my situation) a network solution would be best as it
means there is one single location/folder/NAS/LUN/TFTP server to put an
image in and have it work for every pCP client on the network.

I'll be happy with whatever the pCP devs and epoch1970 comeup with
though :D
I'm just throwing ideas around :)

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Netbooting piCorePlayer 3.x

2017-04-14 Thread M-H

Further reading on the other bootmodes of the pi 3, made me aware on USB
boot options.
It seems the USB boot from a regular msd is possible, and this should
also be possible for small tf card readers.
So for embedded systems that have exposed USB / ethernet ports of a rpi3
, there is a < 1 Euro solution to boot over the USB port.

I am not sure if PCP has been tested successfully with usb boots sofar.
I might have missed the discussion on this.
Please update me with a link if this is already documented .

Hi Humax.
The TF card swap in systems with embedded raspberries indeed does hinder
upgrades.
When I bought a deluxe casing for my Pi , I was pleasantly surprised it
came with a 'sd card extender'.
Searching with this string on some sites will give you more info
instantly.
I do recommend you use this knowledge for any embedded pi you have
already or will build in the future.

In this case, it's correct - thanks for the suggestion.

hw results in plughw being used:

Code:

squeezelite -s localhost -o "hw:CARD=ES9023" -d all=info -p 40
  [16:18:26.905117] alsa_open:389 opened device hw:CARD=ES9023 using format:
S16_LE sample rate: 48000 mmap: 1
  [16:18:26.905207] alsa_open:468 buffer: 40 period: 4 -> buffer size: 1920
period size: 480
  [16:19:32.588500] alsa_open:338 opening device at: 44100
[16:19:32.589280] alsa_open:368 reopening device hw:CARD=ES9023 in plug mode
as plughw:CARD=ES9023 for resampling
  [16:19:32.591067] alsa_open:389 opened device plughw:CARD=ES9023 using
format: S16_LE sample rate: 44100 mmap: 1

So I tried:

Code:

squeezelite -s localhost -o "plughw:CARD=ES9023" -d all=info -p 40
  [16:21:33.497244] output_init_common:411 supported rates: 384000 352800
192000 176400 96000 88200 48000 44100 32000 24000 22500 16000 12000 11025 8000
  [16:21:33.578703] alsa_open:389 opened device plughw:CARD=ES9023 using
format: S32_LE sample rate: 44100 mmap: 1

Both work fine, with no errors and very low CPU utilization.

However, since the soxr resampling has better quality (see 'here'
(http://src.infinitewave.ca/)), I'll be using this:

Code:

squeezelite -s localhost -o "hw:CARD=ES9023" -d all=info -R -u vE -p 40
  [16:49:46.185966] output_init_common:411 supported rates: 48000
  [16:49:46.315986] resample_init:362 resampling sync recipe: 0x06, flags:
0x00, scale: 0.89, precision: 0.0, passband_end: 0.0, stopband_begin:
0.0, phase_response: -1.0
  [16:49:46.817425] resample_newstream:189 resampling from 44100 -> 48000

CPU load is a bit higher, but still negligible (~8% on a RPi)

A very simple solution to this problem maybe:
https://www.amazon.com/Stanley-31176-PowerMax-6-Outlet-Control/dp/B00F8ZQWN6
or something similar, allowing you to boot up the whole installation in
one go. By the time the squeezelite is seeing the audio devices the amp
must surely be up and running ;)

My reproducable problem was, that my router used a wifi channel 13 or
even above, which is above the normal (at least eurpean range).
So changing the channel to 6 made the connection possible.

In the beginnng i had some little crackling (using a Usb Dac). In the
squeezelite settings i added a "-r 44100" and the crackling is gone

And its working like a charm now.

I ported the odroid C1 to piCore. My biggest gripe with these other
boards is that there is no continued kernel support. Getting the OS to
boot isn't much of a challenge, where all of the work comes into play is
getting a minimal module set to make the install "tiny". But good
luck.

What I would worry about first is porting piCore to orange. You will
get much more OS support over at tinycore. Once the OS is running,
then we can continue a conversation here about the audio related stuff.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Starting a oPi (Orange Pi) / Armbian Port?

2017-04-14 Thread Cradle

Hi Steen,

first of all: For the fun of it. And for educational purposes.

And the second reason: I like fruit salad... I think raspberries and
oranges can taste good together :)
Although I have two rPis from the very first batch, I am not very fond
of the shortage of the newer smaller rPis, which at last include all
features we once had to add via usb, and for a reasonable price.
Most shops have a "you get only one" policy, if they even have them in
stock.

I have 5 C.H.I.P.S. lying around, some oPis, all were very easy to
source (those CHIPS not any longer). Whereas the rPis are often out of
stock, or being paired with ridiculous shopping costs, or bundled with
(for me) unecessary options.

So I would simply like to try out some alternatives. Those CHIPS would
be very well suited, as well, and they are open source hardware, like
the rPi.

But I don't want to argue, I want to try it simply for the sake of it.

Kind regards,

Arndt

The rpi does not power down its USB port. Everything is active all the
time. If your dac is completely powered down, then the kernel will
disconnect the USB port and drivers. the device will no longer exist in
the system.

Power on/off your amp a few times, wait a few seconds between each
toggle, Then look at dmesg, in the diagnostics pagepost that info.

squeezelite -l
do it before poweroff of AMP, while AMP powered down and again when you

So I haven't tested restart only Squeezelite, I will test this weekend.

Is there really no way for the USB port to remain active and send the
signals automatically when the amplifier restarts?

Is there a place where we can identify the "bugs" to the developers?

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Starting a oPi (Orange Pi) / Armbian Port?

2017-04-14 Thread sbp

Hi Arndt.

I have no experience with the orange pi.
So I'm interested in knowing why you want to port pCP to this device?

The Rpi community is huge and the kernel is actively developed and
finally there are many commercial Audio DAC's so it is well supported. I
don't know if the orange pi have similar Audio DAC's or you can use the
DAC's developed for RPi?

The most important task for you is to get piCore (tinycore) running on
your orange pi. Then pCP is only a collection of scripts that form the
piCoreplayer interface.
